I know this has been asked before but I'm not finding it. I just bought a 2010 3500HD and I'm not sure if there is a break in period after which I need to change the fluid in the front and rear dif. I remeber having to change it in my 2003 at 500 miles.

People suggest changing it early, I never have...Mine has 65K on it now...still looks good.

Just follow the service schedule in your manual.

I don't believe there is an initial fluid change needed but if you tow, I'd change it sooner than the maintenance schedule recommends.

I'm towing a fifth wheel aroung 12K and with the old rig I changed rear dif fluid around 35000 miles. Still looked and smelled ok.

I think changing at 30-35K is a good interval if you use one somewhat hard. Good cheap insurance for long life!

I'll probably change after the first 500 miles towing. Agree completely about tne cheap insurance. I've just towed a few miles so far to test everything when setting up. First impression was a very noticable difference in power and that ITBC system works like a charm, No where close to the milage I was getting with the 03 though. I'm sure it will get better, but then again, I didn't buy it for the milage.

Thanks for the replies,

Walt
