Vette Servo Installed

Recommended Posts

Well I just wanted to comment on how easy the install was on my vette servo. Did it the other night, in 40 minutes time. It was fairly simple and it was the best mod I have done so far. Truck used to "clunk" into gear from 1st to 2nd, now it shifts firm and no more clunk at all. I am very impressed and it all went perfect the first time. Also I got new tires installed and on the same day as I did the vette servo, Cooper Zeon LTZ's LT265/70R17. Love them! The tread pattern on them is different from anything I have ever seen and they look mean without being too aggressive for highway use as well. Very quiet too! I will try to get some pictures up so everyone can see the new tread.

Sounds great man. I need to get a vette servo in mine. Let's see some pic!

Was installing it something someone with a brain can do by themselves or do you need to have the right equipment.

Oh It was very simple. I don't have a lot of mechanical experience, I change my own oil, change my own brakes and stuff like that but I am no expert. If you have a flat head screw driver, something to pry with(to put pressure on the cover) and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty its pretty straight forward. It took some manuevering to get the whole servo assembly out of my truck due to the limited space, but I have been told that on the GMT 900 trucks it is A LOT easier than on the 800s. If you need help or a quick write-up, don't be afraid to ask man.

A write up would be great!

Also, where did you get the parts?

Thanks

Thanks 66nova and MossyOak for posting the links, I actually did get the servo from Oregon Performance, it came in like 2 days and came with all the seals and o-rings needed to do the install. Those two write-up links that were posted are excellent, walks you right through it and those are actually what I used. I could do a write up, but I am still figuring out how to post pictures AND I didn't take pictures while I did the install, so referring to those others would be the best. Again, if anyone has questions let me know. It was pretty straight forward and as I said, if you can do simple mechanical maintenance on your truck, you can more than likely complete the install. ONE note: when you go to put the cover back on, be sure the outside snap ring is seated properly. I thought I did, and then thankfully I double/triple checked it and found that it was not completely seated. I have heard that if its not seated correctly it can cause a lot of problems.

Yes,make sure the outside snap ring is seated properly! I thought mine was good and even fired it up with no leaks.About five miles down the road the retaining ring blew half out,and i lost over three liters of oil. I was lucky i didn't crack the case or loose the ring or cover. I did have to replace a teflon sealing ring however.

+1

I thought the ring was seated ...it wasn't. I too was lucky and didn't break anything.

Just be very sure the snap ring is completely seated and it's a piece-o-cake.
