Removing The Rear Lift Blocks

I want to remove my rear blocks, I have 1.5" blocks in now, I'm not sure if it's stock or whatever, anyways, i loosened the u-bolts and now I can't figure out for the life of me how to take the weight off the leafs and the axle to get the blocks out. can someone give me a quick how to?

Put a floor jack with a block of wood under the spring just in front of the rear end and lift it up. Might want to remove the U-bolts, or at least the nuts. Simple as pie.

I used the floor jack to lift the leaf springs and when they lift enough all you have to do is just pull out the lift blocks. The axle was resting on some jack stands. Are you changing out the U-bolts or putting some spacers to reuse the U-bolts. I removed the rear lift blocks because my Belltech 2 Inch Drop Shackles came with the spacers to reuse the stock u-bolts.

loaded springs and non-rigid connections scare me... so here's how i do axle work:

1) lift truck from frame so tires come slightly off ground

2) support frame with jack stands

3) put jack under shock mount for the side im working on and apply slight pressue to take load off bolts

4) take nuts off ubolts

5) lower axle slowly until desired clearance is achieved

6) do work and reverse

7) repeat for other side

the truck has spindles up front and blocks in the back leveling it, i just want to change the look up a bit and take the blocks out so the end drops back down

When I saw these blocks on my '10 I wondered the same thing. My truck is a 2WD, with a trailering pkg. and the Z-71 option, that is why I assume the suspension is heavier. People say to level the truck out, and add something to raise the front end. Why not just remove the blocks in the rear, and this should get it almost level. Are these blocks really necessary?

They're not necessary at all, I found it funny that my 2WD truck had lift blocks. On the GMT-800 only the 4WD models came with lift blocks. I removed them on my truck and put in some Belltech 2 Inch Drop Shackles and my truck is completely level. I wouldn't level the truck by raising the front end maybe if it was a 4 X 4, but on a 2WD truck I would just drop the rear to level it out.

Im tryin to do the same but for some reason mine are bolted to the leaf springs and i cant get the afore mentioned bolt off. Yall got any ideas?

I'm only speaking from a gmt 800 stand point. Your block is not bolted to the leaf. That bolt helps keep the leafs packed when there's no pressure on them. Your block shouldn't be bolted to anything except the small pin on the axel to keep it from slipping. But I could be wrong if it's a different bolt.
