Sounds like you should go on a diet :P

LOL. It's $ 10 for every pound over your allowable normal weight.

I don't know what that means exactly, but I think that I can get you the number to Jenny Craig.

Is this for the truck? What is the "allowable normal weight"?

This all sounds like a huge pain.

So if my truck weighs over 5001 pounds I have to pay to the state of california 154 dollars, and If my trucks weigh 5000 pounds or less I have to pay 80 dollars. So my truck needs to lose some weight, need to put the 17's back on. I'm going to remove the spare, I already removed the tow package, I need to take it somewhere to get weighed at.

So is this based on actual truck weight or just GVWR?

If it is actual truck weight then weigh it when you are almost out of fuel...20gal x 8lbs/gal = 160 lbs

While you are at it might as well pull the seats out those have to weigh something right?

Yeah it is the actual truck weight, that is what I was thinking to have it weighed when I am almost out of fuel.

The weight fee is for commercial vehicles only! Non-commercial vehicles are value based.

Even if you are licensed for commercial, it only applies to 10,000+ and anything over has a scale (according to the DMV's web site)

NO. The DMV in all it's wisdom will TELL you how much you owe! Your truck is less then 10,000 lbs so you won't have a weight fee surcharge.

i would move to a different state

I have the same regulations in Pa. My truck is considered class 2 (due to weight) and I must pay more than the regular registration fee

wrong..i just got my renewal in the mail yesterday, weight fee is $154.00. any PICK UP TRUCK over 5001 lbs. curb weight in CA WILL be registered as commercial.. unless you have a non removable cap, witch DMV must inspect. i went thru this when i moved back here. scale weight was 5550 lbs. with my Gaylor hard cover. told DMV that i do not use for commercial work, and i still have to pay the fees..due to 5550 lbs. when i bought the truck in NY new had the same thing..any pick up over 5001 lbs. will be registered commercial... :help::sick:

:P
