Drl's Burnt Out, Replace With Ambers?

Was looking at my personal truck and the DRL's come on when you shift it out of park, its a 2003 1500. Well on my work truck, a 2003 HD, the low beams are on and the amber blinkers stay lit. But when you shift it out of park no DRL's. So i think they are burnt out and have heard guys replace them with amber bulbs. Would be an easy thing to do, just want thoughts and opinions. And are they DRL's different on the 1500's then the 2500 HD's of that year? I did a search a few weeks ago and found reading material but nothing really fully just about this in general. Thanks for any info/help. Great forum, i love this site! Thanks

Check out the Avalanche forum: http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/index.html

One of the things we do to identify ourselves is to replace the DRL's with ambers so when we see another member we can give the proper gesture!!

Seriously, there are stickied threads with part numbers, how to and such.

Thanks both of you for your replies. I think I will do it to the work truck since thats the one having the issue. Then I will do it to my personal truck, which is Victory Red next time i am working on it, i think it would look sharp with the red.

Anyways, i was thinking about it though, maybe the bulbs aren't burnt out and its the sensor in the dash acting up. Because when i start the truck i can see the lows on against the garage door before i open it. And like today for example it was sunny out and i backed in and shut the garage door and the lows where still on. Well shouldn't the Drl's been on and then when/if it got dark enough the light sensor would detect that and turn the lows on then? So its probably the sensor and i have seen that posted in this forum before so i will do a search and get that fixed, then get some bulbs, and then some pics! Thanks

Glad to help.

I just got done scouring over the many different light mods over on the Avalanche Forum...they were great! I have the high 6 mod now, but will be doing ambers in my truck and the FTDRL's as well i think...should look sharp. Thanks again!

Well, a friend of mine is down in an area that has bigger stores, and are open on a Saturday. So i had her pick up some 3157/4157's and will be getting them put in here yet this weekend!

I checked out that forum this weekend and was going to sign up as a member so i could see the pictures. But it takes me to a url that isn't available once i click the sign up button. Do you know has it been this way awhile or are they not accepting new members?

has anyone else go through DRL bulbs like diapers? i went through at least 5 DRL bulbs in my 2003 burban over the years and just removed them about a year ago and gave up.

same thing with my silvy. when i bought it it had a DRL bulb out. dealer put it in..month later other one burnt out.. replaced it... then other bulb went out again... pain in my ass

not to mention 50% of the GMT800 silverados, suburbans, sierras, yukons ALL HAVE ONE DRL bulb... haha thats the way it seems to me does anyone else agree?

sorry for the rant

Mine has been pretty solid but when I lost my first DRL I changed the sockets and went w/ the 4114LL bulbs. So far they are holding up well.

i changed mine out on my 03 about 3 weeks after i got it new. i used Sylvania bulbs that are rated for 14V+. amber long life.. have NOT had to replace them yet 53k mi.. thing is if a cheap bulb is rated for 12V most times they will blow at 13V.. most of out trucks run 14-14.5V so a bulb rated for 12V will not last very long..

I used the Napa bulbs, 3157NA's whatever brand Napa stocks. For mine at home I got the Sylvania bulbs, 3157/4157NALL's i believe they were.

Here is a pic of my work truck with the amber DRL's:
