K&n Filter / Intake Voids Warranty?

According to my local dealership, adding a K&N filter / intake voids the warranty? They said K&N was on a list along with others that GM has sent out to dealerships.

Any truth to this?

Why would adding an intake void a warranty?

Thanks in advance ...

K & N filters let larger particles into the engine air than the factory filters, part of the reason why they improve air flow, which "can" damage internal engine components. I've never heard of it voiding a warranty however as even the sticker that comes with it to place on the airbox even says "this does not void your warranty". That's for a drop-in filter though, changing the entire intake ducting assembly with a CAI might be a different story. But in any case as Blackout said, just like with every other gray area mod - swap it out before visiting the dealer.

A buddy of mine told me that it was because people over oil the filters when they clean them and the oil is ruining the air flow sensors.

The real problem is when people over oil the filters then it effects the MAF sensor. So use come common sence.

As far as changing to a CAI thats a tough subject...I have a CAI in my truck and not a problem with the dealer ship. Also a drop in K&N in the Denali havent been refused service.

i have had a Volant on my 03 since new and never had a warranty issue..what came about was that GM was paying alot for warranty work that was a result of dirty MAF from over oiling the filters. if found the warranty would not cover the cleaning of the MAF. if the MAF was clean with the a K&N filter installed, the the warranty work will be covered...

hope this helps..

gm cannot void your warranty because you choose not to use their parts/products...its federal law, if they can prove that by you useing an after market product that caused failure then they may have a shot in hell but they cannot say "ohh we can't fix this trans because your have a CAI"

it would be like GM forcing you to use goodwrench brand oil or else lose your warranty..

Be tough for GM to void the warranty, do they not sell a CAI?

That might be why they arent listed as an accessory any longer. Just a guess though

It is amazing what people will assume simply because it makes sense to them. Anyone that I have heard claim this could not explain how an oiled filter works, but they were smart enough to assume it must work the same as a dry filter (or they were just "parroting" what they read on the internet).

If you are the least bit concerned, put the stock box back on. It is easier than trying to argue with someone that does not want to listen (like a service manager that thinks he is always right).

what makes you guys think a CAI is any better then the stock box?

actually according to dyno sheets provided by our own tuning gurus at black bare...some of them are very marginally better....

But a couple or 3 hundred for 1.5hp isn't my idea of a good place to spend my money
