Procomp Leveling Kit Installed...

Recommended Posts

So I recently had my Procomp leveling kit installed. The truck looks GREAT! However the ride has stiffened up dramatically. I knew it was gonna stiffen up a bit but some of the knocks she takes are really really rough to the point it makes me cringe. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to help this. The truck has about 70,000 miles on her now and has never had the shocks done. Would a set of Bilsteins for 0-3" help this at all? Also on the highway if I stomp on it, once she drops I get a fair bit of vibration that wasn't there before. Not sure if it's wheel hop or what. Any suggestions on what I can do to bring my truck closer back to stock ride other then removing the keys?

shocks may help some.. or they may firm up the ride even more.

the rough ride it primarily due to lack of down travel. check and make sure your upper control arms arent touching the metal droop stops... if they are then you have 0 down travel and need to decrank a bit.

dont expect any miracles... cranking the bars makes the truck ride like crap. been there/done that.

I can second that FOR SURE! My 2000 had them cranked with the 3" BL to fit 33x12.5 Mud Terrain BF's. That thing rode like the John Deer tractors I drive for my grandpa on the farm. :)

Yeah, they may be cranked too much. Especially with re-indexed keys, which I'm sure are included in that kit. Did you do anything to the rear?

No never touched the rear. Just cranked up the front enough to get rid of the front end sag and make the truck level.

Matt - Beautiful truck you got there. You say been there, done that. What are my options to get back to a stock ride or better? Last vehicle I lifted was a TJ with a Skyjacker lift and that thing rode like shit after that. I'm not opposed to lifting my truck but if I'm chucking a couple grand I want a good ride there after.

I know this is way out of the ballpark in the height you are probably looking for but, I want to share it with you. I drove my uncle's 2004 HD silvy, with a 7" BDS and keys on the front to clear 37's. That thing rode awesome, I mean awesome. Could it be the keys are doing this? I have rode in trucks with keys and they ride good. I thought the main reason for adding keys is to keep close to the factory crank on the bars.

I'm not opposed to a 6" lift. That's probably as high as I'd like to go but like I said I'm more interested in a comfortable ride.

Either a true 4 or 6" suspension lift OR a 3" body lift.

You will not have a stock ride by cranking any torsion keys, be it stock or aftermarket.

As you said before though...Longer shocks make a HUGE difference. I did this on my '02 after I cranked the bars...Downtravel is what was shaking the fillings out of my teeth. So I bought the cheapo Procomp shocks for a 0-3" lift, put them on, and it was then just a hair rougher than stock.

It varies.

I tried a few different variations of shocks on my 2005 with the bars cranked 1.75" and the thing still rode like a tank. Softer/Harder/Longer/etc shocks didn't make a difference. It still rode like crap.

Maybe it's because I was a mechanic so I rode in other stock trucks daily... so i was reminded every day how much stiffer my truck was then a non-cranked one.

I got tired of it after a few months and bought the 5-6" Superlift FIT kit... BEST decision i ever made with that truck. After that, it rode like a dream
