Pass Through Rear Seat

Recommended Posts

I read an article about the Hybrid crew cab that said rear seats could be ordered with a pass-through for long loads, but I can't find any pictures or even a description! It looks like it's an option on non-hybrids also. Anybody got one? Pictures, please!

I would think maybe it looks like the avy rear seat.

I do miss that about my avy. It would eat full sheets of plywood like nothing. I always like seeing the look on the face of the salesperson at home depot when they walked out to load it up. They were like "this aint gonna fit." :)

Hmmm . . . interesting . . .

I wouldn't see how this would work on a truck. Doesn't the bed float independently of the cab?

yea usually kinda what i was thinking

Yeah, the Avalanche can have a pass-through because the rig is basically a modified Suburban. The bed is integral to the body.

I bought a brand-new 2002 - 2500 Avalanche LT the very day they hit Portland. The two happiest days in my life were the day I bought it and the day I sold it.

I got truly tired of burning well over a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and driving a rig that was dangerously BLIND to the rear.

Honestly, I totally enjoy just a plain 'ol LTZ pickup.

Unless they have another fold down portion at the end of the bed, against the cab. Then you fold down the seat and open another door. The only way I could imagine this working, without increasing road noise and comfort, is to go with a three door layout. Dunno, sounds weird to me. Why not lay the log load on the tailgate or out of the tailgate.

Thats what I was guessing too. But I would think have a trap door in the front of your bed would really cut down on your hauling abilities. I mean a hinged door can't be as strong as welded steel corners.

Now if anyone knows how to add this to a 2007 Impala, I could get a LOT of bonus points at home . . .

I think it was probably a copy and paste mistake from the Tahoe Hybrid portion.

You're missing part of my post. I saw several partial descriptions on a web search that talked about a pass-through seat - on GM sites! Try it yourself! The author's name is Greg Zyla. I believe he's syndicated, usually has an interesting column.

There's the link..... and yeah, the guy is a moron. I'm sure he's used to reviewing cars but knows little about them, and thus since in every other application a 60/40 rear seat is a "pass through" he assumed that term would apply in this case as well even though it does not.

A crew cab pickup DOES have a 60/40 rear seat that can be folded to open up the "cargo area" in the rear section of the cab, but it's NOT a "pass through" in the sense that a car's rear seats fold down to open into the trunk.

Yep, looks more like he copy/paste from one of his previous articles regarding the Tahoe/Yukon. ;)
