Do i have the famous piston slap or is it something else?

I made this movie when the outside temperature was 25 degree celcius or 77 fahrenheit, but with a cold engine.

The camera was located at the passenger side front wheel well.

The sound dissapears after a few minutes driving, and dissapears when the engine is heating up.

When i open the hood, the sound seems to be more noticable from underneath the engine.

Experts, is this piston slap or is it something else?

That's definitely worse than my 6.0l tap. Sounded worst right after you started it up. It'll last forever just like that to, but most people just don't like the noise and replace the motor.

The sound is extra noticable because the mic was in the passenger wheel well.

But is it piston slap or something else?

Sounds like piston slap in my opinion. If it was a faulty lifter or valvetrain you would hear it near the top of the motor or intake manifold area.

Piston slap is usually more annoying than destructive.

In that case, I'd let it be. Seems like all the newer GM engines do some type of tick or something.

OK so it's piston slap?

Is there something i can do about it, other oil or something?

You can take it to a GM dealer and have them decarbon the cylinders. They have a special chemical to do this with. This was the gm's "cure" for the piston slap issues under warranty. It is unfortunately only a temporary fix, as the piston slap comes back. My advice is to live with it or buy another truck.

To be honoust, i think it sounds like crap when cold, well it could be worse offcourse, but i expected more from GM.

It is not a reason to sell the car, i love it, drives fantastic.

Now a stupid question: i have a supercharger "laying arround"

If i mount this on my 5.3 Vortec, will this resolve piston slap also?

Assuming you melt the pistons or break the connecting rods, that will definitely solve the poston slap problem. :D
