Tailgate Cap Doesn't Work With Camper Shell

Recommended Posts

OK, so I decided to get a shell today. My wife says I'm too young to have a shell, but.....call me practical I guess. Well, I love the room, but when I put it on, I didn't think about how the big OEM tailgate trim cap would effect it. It didn't work, so I removed it only to find 4 large ugly bolt/nut holes left in my tailgate. I can't be the first guy to have this problem, so those of you that know, I would really appreciate some suggestions.

I had this problem with a Ram that I had. I used some plastic hole plugs/caps...this link isn't the place I got them from but it will give you an idea.

GM sells a tailgate cap that will not interfere with a topper. Just need to get it...it covers the same part of the tailgate as the spoiler top (so the holes won't show), but doesn't have the 'spoiler" part on it so the topper will close.

IF you look at the HD trucks you will see this tail gate cap. I think they are about $40 from the dealer. I have one in the shop I bought for my truck from a dealer, he had them in stock.
