flyboyron Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I have an 09 Silverado and of course like anyone who spends time cleaning their truck, you want it to look nice with no water spots. I noticed that after it is washed that water drips from the center of the grille and on to the chrome bumper and dries on the chrome where in the past I would have to use chrome cleaner to get the dried water spots off. We have very soft water at our house and I go to the front of the truck every 15 minutes and wipe up the water that has dripped. Even after 1 hour there is still water dripping from the grille. Then, the mirrors...........They keep dripping water out of the rubber or plastic where they attach to the door and water runs down the doors and dripping on the chrome running boards. I have to keep checking the doors and running boards for the next hour so they don't get water spots. Very frustrating. Maybe I should take an air hose and blow the heck out of these areas or else take the truck for a drive to blow all the water off of it. How do you guys handle this?
JRLZ71 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I usually don't worry about it. It usually rains a day or so after I wash my truck, or it gets dirt, bugs, tar, water, or something else from the road on it. I was in your position trying to make my truck spotless, and eventually I just got burned out because it's no fun spending countless hours every other week spit shining your ride. Trust me, people aren't paying close attention to see if you have a little water stain on your truck.
cerbomark Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 take it for a short spin around the block after u dry and then re dry all the drips.

I have a 2006 Sierra and it does the same thing. Not so much the grille but the mirrors drip and leave lines after washing. What I do is wash the truck (always by hand) and right after like mentioned before I take it for a quick ride around the block to get rid of majority of the water.. Then once I get back I use a good chamois to dry the truck. You shouldn't really need chrome polish to get rid of water spots, they should wipe right off with the chamois (keep the chamois in a square shape and use long lateral swipes for the entire truck). Although chrome polish does do a great job and looks great, I use it 2-3 times a year. I can't stress it enough to get a quality chamois, pay the $20-30 bucks and you won't regret it.. Say bye to water spots forever. p.s. make sure your chamois is stored away wet, wrung out but wet..
thornmz71 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 i usually go around with an air hose and spray air around all cracks and seams like around the lightnand doors then give it another wipe down its crazy how much water is left after a wash
c4cruiser Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Use a leaf blower to blow the water off Me too! Most electric leaf blowers have more than enough airflow to get rid of water around the grille, inside the outside mirror housings and especially where they attach to the doors, behind the gas door and anywhere else water can puddle. Neighbors may look at you kinda funny, but it does work
ajcain79 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I've used a leaf blower, but most of the time I finish washing and park the truck. The next day I'll use some of that "quick detail" spray to get the drip spots off.
leverlution Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I don't worry about it. I love my truck, and I keep her MUCH cleaner than my Jeep. In fact, I am pretty retentive about my truck and how it looks, but water dripping and leaving spots I don't worry about too much. I just make sure she has some wax and is pretty clean, but she is a truck, and a DD. If I worried about a little water dripping, I would CRY when I came out from work and saw dirt on it. Luckily I thought ahead and bought a silver one so it wouldn't bother me as much. With that said, on my sports cars I used to have, I used leaf blowers for awhile. They work pretty well as long as your careful. Having one with the small hole or long skinny line hole attachment is a big bonus. I have a 2 stroke 200mph craftsman. I have a buddy whos pretty retentive about his Nova as well, and he went out and bought basically a small leaf blower that's electric (extension cord) that's sold as a car-water blowing product to solve just this problem. Your choice which you think is more cost efficient

I use my BG86 everytime I wash my truck. Keeps from scratching the truck by drying (touching) with fabrics. After the leaf blower, just go back and touch up areas with "The Absorber"
