Monroe Reflex

I just ordered a set of Monroe Reflex shocks for my HD. I know Bilsteins get great reviews but the Monroes seem to be well liked too and are quite a bit cheaper.

I only have 25k miles on my truck, but the stock shocks are almost 6 years old and they feel worn out. I get alot of bouncing and wheel hop that I don't remember having. Since shocks wear slowely over time most people don't even realize that they need replaced!

Hopefully these shocks will work out for me. I willl post my impressions once I get them and mount them up. I ordered a set for my buddies 2002 2500 Avalanche too so we will dbl team the trucks and put them on together which should make installation that much easier.

I ordered them from shockwharehouse.com. I have never ordered from them before but other members have. The price was very good I thought. $204 shipped.

Installed the shocks today. Wow what a difference! Who would have thought that at 25K miles my shocks were that worn out! Rear wheel chatter/hop over compression joints is gone, front nose bobbing at stop signs is gone and just the basic wallow down the road and around corners in town is gone!

The truck feels much more planted now, and I think the valving in these shocks is much better suited to an HD truck than the skinny little stock tubes. Mine actually shipped from Rancho in CA so I agree that the Reflex and Rancho 5000 are basically the same shock.

Yeah Rancho and Monroe are actually both made by Tenneco, who also makes Dynomax Performance exhaust and Walker OE Replacement exhaust. Bilsteins aren't a bad shock but most people associate Bilstein with GM however depending on the year Tenneco had the OE GM contract for a while, then Bilstein, then now it's Tenneco again. The only thing is if you have a Z71 you MUST replace them with a mono tube shock, Monotubes are ONLY for the Z71's but you have to use them if you have the package.

Im looking for some new shocks for my 2001 2500 HD im leaning towards rancho RS5000s anyone...my truck has 48K and is still on stock shocks. any other suggestions i know the monroe reflex is like the same thing i just like the rancho look and i think theyre a bit more rugged. are their any other shocks out there i should consider? Advanced Autos offering buy 3 shocks get the 4th free so i think nows a great time.

Thanks

I'm about ready to pull the trigger and order mine.....I asked about Z/71 and the Reflex Monotube.....he said "they are the same" ???? (P/N 911152 and 911151) ....mine is an '06....I think the Z/71 pkg was just skid plates....nothing suspension....I think

Z71 doesnt have rear sway bar either for more articulation. I have a set of reflexes on my 1/2 ton. Amazing over the stocks I replaced em at at 65k
