Disabling Auto Headlamps Gmt800

I would like to disable the auto headlamp feature on my 2000 silverado but not permanently. I have heard of the resistor method but was wondering is there a way to use a toggle switch so you can turn the auto headlamps feature off when needed and then when you want to use the feature again back on. P.S the toggling the override does not work on mine. Thanks

Nope no fuse and on the 2000 silverado there is no off position so thats why im lost and would like to put a toggle in.

maybe if you go to LMC truck or something and order and 03+ switch it might work..

I ordered a switch from a different site for the 03-06 and it came in a and the connectors on the back were different so i sent it back. Wish it would have worked.

Oh ok I gotcha. I wasn't trying to be a smart ass, I wasn't aware the 2000 didn't have a switch so I didn't understand what you were confused about. Sorry if my comment seemed sarcastic! :D

O no problem Not a big deal but i do hope someone knows how to do the diode trick with a toggle switch so i can use the auto feature when i need to while keeping my DRL on :D

Here's a diagram of the circuit. You should have a fuse (DRL 10a) or a relay you could remove to disable them. But pulling the fuse could disable other features sharing the circuit. If the switch is your desire, find the light green wire with a black stripe from the C1 connector (pin A11) on the BCM and install the switch between the BCM and the lights.

So this will allow me to have control over the auto-headlights and my DRL will only stay on until i manually put the headlamps back on with the stock switch. Then when i want to use the auto headlamp feature again ill just hit the toggle switch i installed. Sorry if that sounded confusing, i just want to make sure before i start cutting wires.

The circuit works like this:

The ambient light sensor sends a signal to the BCM which determines from that signal if it's day or night. Daylight=DRL on/Headlights off. Night=Headlights on/DRL off. If the BCM detects daylight, it grounds the solenoid side of the relay completing the circuit to the ING E fuse which in turn connects power from the DRL fuse and thus the DRL lights come on.

Installing the switch is essentially providing a way to open the ground circuit to the relay and your DRLs will not come on even when it's daylight. Close the switch and they work like normal. Even with the switch installed (on or off), your auto headlights will work normally. The two circuits are independent of each other.

I may have swayed you the wrong way or im misunderstanding you but I want my DRL to work like normal. I am mainly concerned about the headlamps turning on with the auto headlights. I am looking for a way to bypass the auto headlights with a switch so the BCM thinks its day time when I have the toggle switch in position A then when I return the toggle to Position B the headlights work as they normally would with the auto headlamp feature. Thanks Again

OOPS. Somehow I distracted myself in the DRL direction. Sorry about that. So, here's the other circuit you need for that. Same principle except you want the C2 plug-pin A11 (white wire). The switch will provide a way to open the circuit and your auto headlights will not work. Close the circuit and they'll work normally. Your dash light switch will still work like normal.

On my 2000 Suburban all I had to do to disable the auto-on headlights was push the interior light on/off button four times in succession in six seconds to turn off the auto-on feature. This had to be done with the ignition on. When the car was turned off and restarted the auto-on was turned back on. Four pushes of the button turned it off again.
