Mirror Cap

Searched, but to no avail. Can anyone direct me to a topic or if none is written yet, I

want to replace the outside mirror black top cover with a body color one. Ordered them

today. I thought I have already read this somewhere, but can't find or remember the

content of it.

I'm sure it just pops off, but probably has some plastic clips that break real easy.

they just pop off and they do have easily broken tabs. just be careful with the new body colored ones. there will be good directions with the new ones that will show you where to apply pressure to pop the tabs without breaking them.

The easiest way I found when I did mine was to fold the mirror back toward the door. Grab the bottom of the mirror at the split closest to the door and pull both top and bottom off. The tabs that keep the top part on are a pain in the butt to get at without breaking them. With both pieces off you can work on it much better and see what you are trying to accomplish. Snap the old top covers off put the new covers on and replace the whole assembly back on the truck. I had mine done on about 20 minutes.

Be very careful!! The dealer broke the tabs on my black covers when they removed them to install the chrome covers. I returned the broken black covers and asked them to call me when they had some replacements (that weren't broken). This was two weeks ago. They called today and said I could pick up the replacement black covers. My point is, I'm guessing these are a little tricky to remove without breaking the tabs, unless the GM tech was a little too rough and/or inexperienced to accomplish this task without damaging them.

They are made out of very brittle cheap plastic. Luckily the clips that break are normally on the ones that you are removing... leaving the clips other half intact on the mirror so that the new covers snap on.
