whats a good rugged shock that performes well for light duty - heavy duty off road, plowing, some towing and heavy loads that still provides a decent ride Looking to pay $50-$100 per shock.... gime some options please

I replaced my shocks last year with Monroe Reflex's all the way around & I'm happy, however, I don't work my truck as heavily as you do yours. In your case you might want to look at Bilstein's. I've been told they stand up to more rugged use such as what you're truck will be seeing. Good Luck!

i hear the reflex and rancho Rs5000 are the same so i think im gonna go with ranchos cause i like the badge versus the plain white monroes. unless anyone has another suggestion

i have bilstein Hds, they are stiff as telephone poles but perform nice under weight

I am running the Monroe Reflex and am very happy with them. Not sure if they still are still on sale but they were buy 3 get 1 free. Monroe also has the "gas magnum" that might be better suited for you. Bilsteins are also good shocks but more money I think.

yea i ordered the rancho rs5Ks with the buy 3 get the 4th free or whatever...i hope i dont regret geting the 9000 series cause you can hook those up to the hand held thing and change stiffness....

When the trucks at work wear out shocks, I've always got KYB monomax as replacements. I've also got these on my 96, they have about 40K on them and still perform well.

So as of last night i got both rear shocks on and 1 driver side shock on and drove the truck to skool.... seems to drive better already but there is still some sort of UP and Down wobble in the front driver side like a shimmy as im driving but insted of being side to side its UP and Down with a tiny bit of steering wheel bumpyness too.....any ideas?

I'd finishing installing your shocks then take it out for a "road test" no telling what is going on with one new shock & one old one. Especially when it's on the front end.

nah its all good i installed the last one today everythings fine...but i still have a bit of a wobble in the driver side front end... it was their on my last set of shocks and isnt as strong on this set.... could it be the steering stabilizer?

Have a reputable shop do an inspection on your steering components. ie. ball joints, tie rods, drag link etc. Sounds like there's a little slop somewhere.

There have been a few topics on this same subject, bottom line it comes down to preference. I'm in the auto parts industry and I sell everything from Monroe to Bilstein to KYB. And some people love one more then the other and someone else could feel the complete opposite. The only thing you have to remember is if your truck is a Z71 then you HAVE to put a monotube shock on it. I've sat through classes about it and why you have to, if it has the Z71 package you HAVE to use a monotube, and if it doesn't you CAN NOT use a monotube. They are a completely different shock (no matter what brand.) I personally run a NAPA Gas Grande (which is a monroe something) and I love them. They hold up to towing and plowing yet it's not a horrible ride.

Thanks dude and thats intresting about the z71 i didnt know that? why is it that way? and i believe napa gas grande=monroe reflex= Rancho Rs 5000.... and yes i probably should have an inspection done. cause its not all rocky in the passenger side its just the driver side

No Problem... Yeah the Z71's have a monotube shock, basically the pressure in a monotube is like 50x that of a regular shock. I was at a monroe class and they said that a normal shock will NOT affect ride height, the only exception is on a monotube shock, because the rest of the suspension is designed for such a high pressure shock, the front end will actually sag if the monotube shocks are worn out. I haven't quite figured out what's different with the rest of the suspension but that's what they say lol.
