Alright so i donno if some one has asked this before.

 

But I was wonder what your guys's opinions were for the best quality sound system for not out reageously expensive that I could put in my 01 gmc sierra. I'd like to replace the speakers, add an amp and a sub. Any suggestions? and if you do, if you could post the apprx price so i know what im looking at. the best quality that i can get for the cheepest would be awesome. and what would work best with my truck.

 

Also, I know i have a button on my dash that says AUX and i know what its for, has anyone here attempted to lead that out to the front so you could hook up your ipod or phone to hook it up to the speakers? if so how hard was it? lol

I don't think you'll get many direct answers on what would be the best quality for the cheapest price for a sound system. There are so many different brands and styles. Are you planning on a single or double box under the rear seat? If you're wanting to add an amplifier you'll probably be better off buying an aftermarket head unit with RCA outputs, instead of having to use a line converter. The only issue with swapping head units in any newer GM vehicle is the need for adapters to keep everything working. Like the warning chimes, steering wheel controls, etc.

 

I have an Ipod adapter that plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the factory head unit. You can use the buttons on the head unit or the steering wheel controls to control the Ipod. It works pretty good and also charges the Ipod.

i also have a 2001 silverado and i replaced the stock front speakers with some GM specific pioneer speakers and replaced the head unit with a $120 JVC with aux and USB input. im very happy with the performance and quality. way better then stock.

My dad owns a Tint and Audio shop. A custom loaded pro-box with a rockford fosgate 500 watt rms, your door speakers bought and installed. You can look at spending around a minimum 900 bucks. It will beat the shit out of your truck...

if your looking for killer sound at a fairly cheap price id go with Infinity speakers. I got a 6-1/2 inch set for the doors of my truck on sale at best buy for like 90. There even cheaper on amazon.

they sound awesome. really crisp highs, and alot of bass for my truck (only have a standard cab so not alot of room to fill). idk how may you want to install but anything from the Kappa line is going to sound great and you can find them at a reasonable price. I'll be buying Kappa 4x6 plate speakers for the pillars for sure when i get enough time to put them in

yeah i have the Kappa's which are a step up from the reference. oh and make sure that you get two way speakers. that really helps the sound, sound better

As far as for the sub box you need to decide on whether you're going to put one or 2 subs in your truck. Also since your truck is extended cab like mine you will have to get a shallow sub in order to mount underneath the back seat. Pioneer has some starting around $100 give or take. I've seen premade boxes on eBay for arounf $100 as well. For an aftermarket head unit there are so many with so many more different options, you just have to pick out which you like the best. Make sure though that it is a minimum of 200 watts (50wattsx4). Also, as far as that adapter that was mentioned earlier that keeps all the alarms and chimes, it costs $40 at Walmart. For front speakers I would recommend spending a little bit more money and getting a set of component speakers. Our trucks come stock with a 6.5 inch midrange and a tweeter so you wouldnt have to modify any holes. I'm running a set of Pioneer components (spent about $300 on them a few years ago). As far as the rear suicide doors you can run some decent 4x6s. With components the soundstage of your truck will sound a hell of a lot better than just running some basic 2, 3, or 4 way speakers. Amps are a dime a dozen; as long as you aren't trying to compete in an SPL competition a basic 600-1500 watt amp will do the job just fine depending on your sub wattage. Just my 2 cents worth and hope this helps!

In my pickup, I used the Pioneer head unit that was previously in my Cutlass (free), Alpine SPS-600 6.5" door speakers ($60) and Alpine SPS-406 4x6" ($50) rear speakers. I installed it all so that was free too. I'm happy with this setup without a sub or amp personally. Very crisp and they will even shake the rear-view mirror. Not too bad for $110.

Well said. Id get some decent door speakers that aren't made out of the cheap paper like the stock ones then you really dont even need to run a sub...unless you just want to vibrate the hell out of something lol
