surprised the 4.3 did so bad. my old 98 4dr 4x4 gmc jimmy with 3.42 and 31s got better mileage and was a hair faster. i think gm should have put 3.73 in the diff to make the gmc more competitive.

i love the 4.3 dearly but its out of date and underpowered for a fullsize

I dont think its so much underpowered but it is outdated. Whats killing it is the 4 speed auto. I cant believe they still even offer it. Its not helping the mileage either. Kudos to Ford for stepping up their base trucks.

Yes, praise Ford....... WTH? Am I on the wrong forum here?

This will be my last post in your thread Chevys, but I have noticed every thread you start has positive Ford energy. (Kudos to Ford, Good Job Ford, Ford is doing this b/c they really know how to market) I notice also that everyone else on here in their sig at least has posted their truck (what it is or a pic of it) Not you though. You don't ask questions about your truck, or talk about your modifications. YOu come to the defense of Ford like it is your job or something. So whatever your deal is.... and I am just saying maybe you need to be on the Ford Trucks forum. JM2C. Have a good day sir.

I'm sure it's possible that he's here just to spread his love for Ford. But giving props to the competition for being the better truck is simply the right thing to do, regardless. I'm clearly breaking the rules on this forum, at least your opinion of what they should be. I don't own a Chevy, I own a Ford pickup. I still like to lurk and see what's going on at the other side of the fence. I recently registered to defend Ford in a thread, though I have been coming here to lurk for quite a while before. I wouldn't normally do this, but the person, comment and subject matter interested me enough to add my opinion into what was being said. Forums are great for debates. I wouldn't randomly go in and shout "PRAISE FORD" on every thread, though.

Also, the Chevy had better breaking feel apparently. Typical. :D

Ok, i'll play.. i do drive a F150.. 2002.. My next vehicle will be a GMC Sierra.. i have owned GM cars my entire life until the Ford. That being said, and after reading the review, GM does have some work to do. The 4.3 liter needs to be replaced, and a 6speed auto should be standard, or at least an option. Hopefully they will changes these things when the next gen trucks come out. It wasn't a completly fair test due to the crappy gearing they had in the GMC versus the other two trucks gears. That hurt in the acceleration and towing tests, no doubt. Still, all in all i think they did fairly well with what GM offers at the moment. If the Ford had been using last years V6 the outcome would probably be different.

I am actually relatively impressed considering the gaps of the GM 4 speed and the fairly low (numerically) rear gear of the GM truck. 3.42 and 3.73s are available in the exact configuration that the truck was built. I would venture that it would have at least kept up with the dodge and potentially gotten better economy with the higher gear sets.

Although we do have our GM "fanboys" here, the majority of the members are really not baised and will give credit where credits due; whether it be Ford, Dodge or even (dare i say it) Toyota..

What Kawtoy_77 was referencing was the OP of this thread has ONLY posted pro-Ford comments/threads. In my opinion, and many others, that's a form of trolling.

Your last line says it all.

Did anybody else notice that the Ford has a price tag of $4k higher than the other two? You could get a 5.3 for less than the difference (plus more goodies), or a 4.8 for even less. Considering that they get the same economy, why would anyone want the 4.3 in the 1500?

You mean CRAPota.
