I know, your saying why would somebody ever want to do that? buy a 4x4!! I use to enjoy reading the 4x2 offroad section of fullsize chevy before it became plagued with lift questions...i myself don't offroad as i can barely hit a bump without being worried my axle is going to fall off..but is their anybody that does? how well does your suspension hold up?

I did in my '85 (the black one w/ the scoop in my sig link) It would hold its own in the mud. As for just buying a 4x4, it takes a much more skilled driver to make a 2wd do what a 4wd can. Just sayin....

sadly pretty much anytime i take my trucks "offroad" i get stuck. Mostly a complete lack of skill and paying attention. Having the tires at max psi probably doesn't help at all either. I've gotten stuck with my old '01 at the hunting camp, I parked in the sand and it wouldn't get out so my buddys dad's jeep had to pull me out. I almost always get stuck entering the hunting camp as again its all sand there and unless the gate is already open i have to stop and open it which just lets my truck sink in.

I've gotten stuck by just pulling off a side road onto an angled grass hill but i think it was b/c my right front pretty much dug in when parked. That was with my 06'

I got my old '73 stuck in a ditch once. In its defense i had just spun off the 417 doing 60+ and there was at least a foot of water in the ditch. I did make it a good 100 feet trying to slowly work my way out of it but in the end i didn't make it and again dad had to pull me out.

Dad got his 09 dually stuck in the mud @ the range one day when we went to an IDPA match

so do i take my 4x2s off road? yes..do i get very far or do very well..no..why? b/c i have zero skill and don't let the air out of my tires to give me even somewhat of an edge

my buddy takes his RCLB 2wd offroading all the time.. he goes as far as you can in 2wd.. then me or one of our buddies will pull him out. its always fun to watch

i rather not worry about my skill which id say is decent, and get a 4x4. i always offroad in 2wd and put it in 4 when i need it.

Have a 4x4 now. Years ago - when I was at Bragg - I had a regular cab Chevy with the V6 and took it back on the firebreaks all the time. Never had any trouble and actually passed guys who'd buried their 4x4s on a regular basis. Only time I do it now is the off call where I have to negotiate something nasty in my CVPI. Last time I got it stuck, the F-250 they sent to pull me out got stuck two times coming in and one time on the way out. I'm no off road dynamo, either. I just believe in speed = going further faster. Ha!

I used to take my 2wd 88 up a mountain for about 3 miles to my gf's cabin. It would go as long as you kept the speed up asnd it wasn't wet. It was a stone/dirt road and it had a hard time getting up the steep part when it was dry out let alone wet. When youd get it stuck it would just sit there and spin one wheel since it wasn't posi.

I have. With my 2WD and open diff, I get stuck embarrasingly easily. Haven't tried it with my all terrains, but those 245/65 hard terrains didn't do too well.. In snow/ice, I bet it takes me a good ~ seven seconds to get up to 10MPH when it's bad out. Hopefully bigger tires and 500+ lbs in the bed will make it a tad easier to get around in weather this winter.

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
