Dealer Perfomed Heated Washer Recall

so............ I am awaiting the $100 check from GM

dealer has ordered an Alphatherm unit for me (which THEY are paying for)

AND... i gotta weekend project in the books for next saturday.

The service writer tried to blame the mechanic for not reading the work order. I says "get him up here, I wanna talk to him"

They says, "well, uh, hmmmm.... well.....actually the writer screwed up the WO"

I says: "ok , get the mechanic up here ANYWAY"

Mechanic shows up, and I thank him for his time, and tell him to his face that they tried to blame HIM for the problem.

Just thought he otta know.

As I am going to my truck to leave, he (mechanic) comes out in the lot, thanks me, pops the hood, and shows me exactly where everything goes, where the harnesses are, etc., etc., and gives me a 60Amp fuse and says, you'll need this and gives me the location i the fuse bank where it goes.

I don't like it when folks can't stand up and admit a mistake and try to blame it on others. But, anyhow, I guess it's all good and turned out for the best.

If you tell the dealer not to perform a safety recall, don't you have to sign a waiver that releases GM from any liability? I would have preferred that to getting the Alphatherm unit. It doesn't work nearly as good as the factory unit...not hot enough.

Yea I thought safety recalls are required to be performed???

Technically, yes. When I told them I did NOT want the recall performed, they should have had me sign whatever. They didn't, and removed it anyway.

I had the order in my hand that listed the recall with a hand written note (by the service writer) "CUSTOMER DECLINES".

Woulda been happy to sign it, would not have resisted. They didn't present the form, and went ahead and removed it anyhow.

Do not take this negatively.I was a service advisor for Gm for several years.Worst job I would ever wish on anyone. If a safety recall came through and was not performed Gm would have a fit.Any thing that could be a possible LAWSUIT was not a good thing for the Dealer or Gm.

I just read up on this Recall. It was a voluntary recall so they should have done what you requested.5 actual fires in 1.5 million vechicles it was up to you to make the call.James

Isnt that basically theft. Its your private property

Well, the bottom line is: it was a mistake, and they happen.

wasn't interested in getting THAT cranked up about it, just needed them to resolve it one way, or another --- which they have to a point.

Just gotta hook it all up myself, and, live with the fact that the Alphatherm, by all accounts, doesn't heat the fluid as hot as the original unit did, aparently.

I just can't stand dead switches on my dash board.

was the heated fluid something that was only available in the gmt900 trucks?

As far as the trucks go, yes. They had them in the Enclaves and various other GM products until it was discontinued due to the recall.

My wife still has hers in the enclave. Wanted to crawl under her hood and see if I can find the thing and replace hers with an alphatherm. Looking under the hood of an enclave, in general, leaves you with the impression that almost anything would be hard/impossible to find...

I understand completely.

Put the safer Alphatherm unit in her Enclave and move the (dangerous) factory unit to your truck.

I would have made the same sacrifice. And felt really good doing it.

If they hadn't hidden it so well in the Enclave.
