MCALESTER, OK -- A young army sergeant was laid to rest over the weekend in his hometown of McAlester after a firefight recently took his life in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Jason McCluskey, 26, was honored Saturday. It was solemn and quiet inside the walls of the First Baptist Church.

Outside, thousands peacefully lined the streets to show their gratitude.

And while his family and friends gathered near for the heartbreak, the Westboro Baptist Church struck again.

More than two dozen police officers were brought in to keep the peace. The Kansas protesters showed up to picket like they do at so many military funerals across the country.

But we're told just after their protest, they discovered their minivan's tires had been slashed.

We're told the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle.

AAA was eventually called and the van was taken to a Wal-Mart for new tires.

They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Like my great-grandma used to say, "Hell's full of such Christians as them." Why on earth would you protest the funeral of a fallen soldier!? Absolutely unbelievable.

thats sickening that people would actually protest at a soldiers funeral. it pisses me off. good job to whoever slashed their tires. they have NO right to do that, its extremely disrespectful to the family and freinds, and the country

This church did the same thing in my area of Pennsylvania. The father of the fallen Marine has been in the courts for a couple years now. This has gone to the US Supreme court and will be looked at in the beginning of the 2011 year.

This is an arguement of the legalities of unfettered free speech.

stay tuned as this will have far reaching implications

yes this is a huge deal right now, i think its going to the supreme court....thank you retarded ass bible thumpers

Not like ANY sort of religion I'm familiar with. Hope they are an isolated sect of "some" alien life form.

Hug a Vet.

thats the sad part people take religon to the extreme...look at the middle east, look at the people useing a book that anybody could have wrote to bash on homosexuals...i'm very very anti religon so i will hold my tongue

I am not too far from where it happened and only wished I had known. They should not protest what is meant to be an honoring of a fallen friend or loved one. Whether it be a soldier or civilian.

I think that any service at there home church should be attended by everyone possible and be as loud as possible just to give them a little taste of there own actions, but then we would be breaking some law that would protect them. :)

I love it when they show up somewhere and get out-protested. The Comic-Con folks really showed them up...Standing around with "GOD HATES JEDI" signs and whatnot.

Everytime this comes up I cannot get the words out I would like to get out. All I know is maybe soldiers should start arriving at these followers funerals, when they die, to celebrate their passing.

Oh wait, that would be against the law in some way shaper or form, SOMEHOW.

Again, thank you to all that serve.
