Hid Lights

Im sure this is going to be the dumbest question of this post so far, but what the hells the difference say between a Sylvania Silverstar and a 4500-5k hid? As far as output is conserned.. cause Im seeing that the HID's are like projectors.

What bulb number did you get cuz im not seeing a 5202 kit?

 

Yesterday I ordered HID's for my fog lights from DDM Tuning. The price is certainly right. I got the apexcone Raptor because I read of others having problems with the slim ballast. Besides I have plenty of space to hide the ballast. I got 6000k to get a little blue as I have a Blue Granite metallic truck.

I really wish that state and local police would crack down on people who run these lights without projectors. Running these things illegally takes you down to the level of ricers with their endless hack job mods. Do it right and get projectors that keep oncoming traffic from getting blinded. Just because people are not going out of their way to flash you doesn't mean that it isnt blinding them. I highly doubt any of you would change your lights even if they did. Normally I don't care what other people do to their truck until it effects the safety of everyone else out on the road. It's great that you guys can see, but what about the rest of us? If everyone had them it would be one giant cluster****.

I have to disagree, I wouldn't say every hid retrofit is blinding. Yes some are, but if aimed properly, most have only a slight increase in brightness noticed by others. It's the people that swap out bulbs and don't think adjustment is required that blind the hell out of people and give HID's their bad name.

 

 

Any problems with melting the housings with HID's? I have Silverstar Ultra's in my '98 and wouldn't mind upgrading to HID's but I don't need the housings melting like my fog lamp housings did from Xenon's on my '99 Grand Prix. That sucked.

 

I've had HID's in my '96 for a couple months right now and have ran them for extended periods of time,and haven't had any heat issues at all. You shoul be just fine as long as you stay with the 35W

Do you have a link to where people can get headlight replacements with projectors?

 

Also I have seen many vehicles that come stock with HID's such as certain Cadillacs and Imports and what have you and are brighter than some aftermarket setup's without projectors.

 

What about people that have high body lifts on there trucks?? Should they get in trouble because they blind people whether they have halogens or HID's??

Question for you guys w/ HIDs. When you turn them on, do they

 

a.) flicker coming on

 

or do they

 

b.) come on bright and then warm up to normal color?

Hmm, I never realized they weren't HID projectors, I know they're expensive, but leaky fogged up headlights are no fun either.

that year denali projectors are not HID, but over on the denali form I hear of a lot of people running HID in them with good luck and good light coverage without blinding people. take it for what its worth, people say the same thing about their non-projector factory housings too. I have yet to see a denali in that year with HID added to the factory halogen projector housing.
