Some hid kits aren't the same as others. Generally a 12000k is really purple. 4500 is pure white. 5000 has a slight blue to it 6000 is a bit more blue but still emits a white light. 8000 youre getting bluer and a pic doesnt really show it properly but yours look like 8000k. The box may have said 12000 but thats a real purple. Unfortunately im on my phone so I cant post a link but if you go to any known hid site and look at 12000k pics it'll show just how purple it is.

Lower the K the brighter the lights will be. You want to stay within 4500-6k for driveability. Higher than 6k is more considered show. 4500k is the brighest HID bulb being pure white. 3k also has the same brightness but is yellow. I have a 55W 4500k on my truck and bike and they really light up the road. And HIDs are fine in stock housings on the silverados.

so if yours are labelled as 12000k then you likely were shipped the wrong ones. regardless ive seen 12000k on cars at night and they do nothgin at all for visability. you may aswell put in a red lightbulb and try to drive by that. yours look more like 8000k at most.

Well, I finally got them installed yesterday. My first impression on the DDM 6000K lights were a bit too blue. They really lit-up the road and definitely have their own color. I drove around town for about 2 hrs and apparently they were not too bright; not once did anyone flash me. Nonetheless, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

 

 

Now for the bad, it looks like I will need a relay harness. Half the time the lights will not come on. I have to turn them off and back on again to make them work. You guys don't think it's bad to leave it alone like that until I install a harness?

its not bad but its not great. when you shut the light off give it 10 seconds or so to cool down before restarting. more ballasts dont like being restarted like that. when i talked to ddm on the phone a couple weeks ago they said their kit didnt need a wiring harness for the gmt 800 truck, they said the wiring is sufficient. i dont see gm using crappier wiring in a new truck so it could very well be the kit itself, it could have a bad ballast or something.

Yesterday I ordered HID's for my fog lights from DDM Tuning. The price is certainly right. I got the apexcone Raptor because I read of others having problems with the slim ballast. Besides I have plenty of space to hide the ballast. I got 6000k to get a little blue as I have a Blue Granite metallic truck.

wow Mark! The light output looks awesome! I've been dragging my feet pulling the trigger on a setup, worried about the light scattering, but that does not seem to be the case at all. You have any pics like up against a wall or anything to show how clean the cutoff is? Light output looks real even on the road! I'm disappointed with the light output out of the stockers on my GMC.

there wont be a cutoff on a halogen housing itll just be a blob of light with patches here and there. although he does seem to have a pretty solid patch on the ground which, it still wont have a cutoff line at all against a wall. light output looks great thoug.

Thanks Joe! Uchi is right, they really don't have a clean cut off line and the pictures made the light less blue, but they are brighter and less yellowish from stock bulbs. Since I have to order a relay harness, I might as well order another set of bulbs, I probably get 5000k.

I've been wanting to order the 55W 6000k kist from DDM but my ? is, does anyone think there is a chance of melting the headlight housing with the 55w, or is this only really a problem with the smaller fog light housings?

Any problems with melting the housings with HID's? I have Silverstar Ultra's in my '98 and wouldn't mind upgrading to HID's but I don't need the housings melting like my fog lamp housings did from Xenon's on my '99 Grand Prix. That sucked.

I've been wanting to order the 55W 6000k kist from DDM but my ? is, does anyone think there is a chance of melting the headlight housing with the 55w, or is this only really a problem with the smaller fog light housings?

 

I would just stick to the 35w... they are bright enough. I don't see why anyone would go any brighter than the 35w? Believe me, you’ll be very satisfied with the 35w HID kits!

Hmmm I have the 5K in my cart now at DDM but I'm wondering if I should go with the 6K instead.

Im sure this is going to be the dumbest question of this post so far, but what the hells the difference say between a Sylvania Silverstar and a 4500-5k hid? As far as output is conserned.. cause Im seeing that the HID's are like projectors.
