2003 Silverado Front Speakers

I've got an '03 chevy silverado extended cab, both front speakers appear to be blown out, I'm not sure if its the speakers or some sort of connection from the radio (this might be totally unlikely and I might sound like an absolute idiot) I dont remember if it happened at the same time or one at a time. Anyone know some way I could test it to make sure its not some connection from the radio, before I buy new speakers and take everything apart. I think theyre just blown, anybody got any tips on replace the speakers and what brand aftermarket is best. First time on this site, thanks!

How to test? Try a known good speaker.

Tips for replacement? Pretty straightforward. Remove door switch panel, remove both 10mm headed screws, remove upper triangular trim panel by the mirror and pull door panel straight up and off.

Tips for what brand? Lots of good ones out there. Depends on how much you have to spend. I've always had good luck with Pioneer but there are better brands out there if you have the money.

I'm about to replace the front speakers on my '99 GMC Sierra. It takes 6 1/2" shallow speakers which is probably the same for your Silverado. I ordered the Pioneer TS-G1643R speakers from Amazon for $35 with free shipping and no tax. I checked Crutchfield and several other websites before deciding on the Pioneers.

Good information. The OEM drivers were known to blow. When you replace them, I'd stick with something efficient if you are going to keep the factory head unit.

Let me reword that, I just am not sure if its some internal wiring problem from radio to the front speakers, the rear ones work, im just wondering if its possible that a connection somewhere from the radio to specifically the front speakers had been severed, I think Ill just order new speakers, this seemed unlikely I just wanted to make sure it wasnt a common problem or something, those speakers on Amazon look good, thanks everyone!!!

Factory speakers are 8 ohm which is tough to find, aftermarket, last I checked so yes, something efficient, definently.

Thanks. How about Bose for a replacement?? And how hard are the wires in the door to fix??

I would certainly test with a known good speaker first (as was suggested above) first. Anything is of course possible.

I just pulled my stock speakers out TODAY in my 2003 Silverado extended CAB and they had Stamped right on the back of them 4 ohm! I do have pictures!

As for speakers, I replaced all 4 of mine with POLK speakers because of the High Sensitivity they have which is needed if your using the Factory radio and no AMP! These were rated in the 91dB to 93dB range. A lot of others are like 86dB and won't be as loud as stock or sound as good as they could without a AMP. I got the db651s for the front and db461p for the rear. They are also all 4 ohm. The factory Tweeters were broken from their Plastic mounts in the door and were just hanging behind my speaker Grills. I tossed them, not needed since the tweeters are in the new speakers anyway.

I do in the next few months have plans to add 2 10" Subs, a AMP, and a new Head Unit. Something like a Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT (Which hasn't been released yet!) I would like to read some personal reviews on the Unit first so however long that takes.

Quick test, 9 volt battery on the speaker circuits, should hear a pop from the speaker. Even if the speaker is "blown" there should be some distortion noise.
