Black Plastic Treatment - Permanent

Recommended Posts

The black fender flares, tailgate protector and bed rail covers have started losing some of their "blackness" after being exposed to 5 years of Florida sun and heat. I have used multiple products to try and lessen the effects of UV, but they are all temporary and wash off. What product is out there that I can apply to these plastics that will make them black again, but not a shiny black that lasts? I hear people say Back to Black, but that is also temporary, correct? I do not want to paint them. If I need to reapply something annually, then fine, but not weekly or after each rain.

Back to Black works good, but does eventually wear off. I have yet to find anything that lasts a good long time.

Gatorback is an annual treatment that gm recommends for the avalanche rear bed cladding but its not cheap. Like $175 to apply to the whole avalanche rear and bed cladding

I have been using the Adams VRT on my trim and tires for a couple of years. Kind of a mat finish with just a little shine. Makes trim and tires look like when they were new. Not over the top look.

It repels water and has UV protection which is good here in Stex and Florida. There is a 15% sale on now tell 12pm 30th. Put balckfriday2010 in th promotion code or order by phone (Ashley is a great help). If you do not like it Adams has a 110% return policy.

This might sound a little odd but heat restores the color to plastics. Use a heat gun on the surface and as it heats up the dark color will come back to the plastic. If the plastic becomes shiny just pub is with coarse steel wool or a Brillo pad. Try it in a small area and see how it works.

If you are just trying a small area, you can even use a lighter very quickly.
