Factory Gps Hard To Use?

I'm on my 5th factory GPS, ( 2 denalis, a H2, a Saab, and my Escalade) and none of them are easy to use. They just don't seem intuitive, and are actually dangerous in my opinion. The older ones didn't have a great database. Now they do, but force you to make address entries in a difficult manner.

I much perfer our Garmin

I knew I wasn't alone when I saw my wife was using the GPS screen as the suction cup mount point for her Garmin!

Anyone else out there think the GM GPS is, clumsy?

Oh yeah....I much perfer my garmin to the GM Nav.

I purchased my truck used, and it came with it. If I had to pay for the option, no way. Cost aside, I still perfer my garmin.

I find the database is not as good, that is my garmin will often find addresses that the GM Nav does not.

Also, I haven't found a way to enter GPS co-ordinates. I do a fair number of scout camps, with don't really have street addresses, but GPS co-ordinates. The GM Nav is useless for those.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the GM Nav, it's nice to have as it's all intergrated into the sound system etc. It's just I agree with flyin6, garmin is much easier to use.

Only thing I don't like about it is the point of interest makes you enter a name of the place. Where most let you enter a type of place.

What I mean is with the gm if I want to find a coffee shop or supermarket I have to put in the name of one like starbucks or vons. But with the one in my last car all I had to put in was coffee shop or grocery store and it gave me a list.

Other than that I like it.

Ok, I have to ask....how to you input the name of a POI you're looking for ?

under the destination button there is an option to choose PLACE in lue of ADDRESS, but it requires you to name the place.

Concurr...

Everytime I purchase I set out to order the vehicle. That way (with the exception of the Caddy) I could delete the GPS. Then someone offers me a "deal" like zero percent (twice) and I take a lot unit which has the GPS. I am always hoping someone will come up with a way to use the hardware while dumping the software so I can use lat/long and stuff like that...

I bought an aftermarket NAV unit for that reason. It's cheaper then the factory order cost. It uses the garmin interface. So much better to use. The only downside is it does not look OEM.
