Timing 94 350 Pickup

In my Haynes repair manual it said that the electronic spark timing must be bypassed but I can't find it behind the relay cover?

Also I can see the timing mark plate but I am having a problems locating TDC. I tried to clean off the plate but it is hard to get at so maybe I need to degrease it better. I haven't adjusted the timing in any vehicle in years are there still numbers on the plate?

Thanks

In my '95 Suburban, there is a wire under the glove box that is brown with a black tracer. The wire has a black plastic connector, and is located just to the left of the blower motor adjacent to a large wiring harness. This wire must be disconnected when checking the timing. To address your other question, my engine does have a timing plate with marks and numbers. Your '94 may be different in both respects, but this is what I can offer.

I just took a look and there is a tan wire with a black tracer where you said. I didn't see the black connector but I may have to remove the inside of the glove box. The wire is wrapped together in the large wiring harness, just a short length is visable. I will follow the end to the connector. Now I know where and what I am looking for.. Thanks

I always find it easier to clean the dampner and timing plate from the underside, just wear goggles... I also take a chalk stick and run it across the mark on the damper, but I'm old and my eyes are going.

The timing bypass connector on the 88-94 trucks/utilities was outside, under the hood coming out of the main harness where it goes into the underhood electrical center. Single connector bypasss, tan wire with a black tracer.

Timing is set to 0*.

There are a few out there that the bypass connector is under the glove box...tan/black tracer....the connector is there somewhere. '94's & '95's seem to be the only ones I've seen it on.

I've only ever seen the connector behind the glove box on '95 full size applications due to the electrical center being moved to the driver's side inner fender (mid model change). Many of the S/T trucks and S/T utilities had them behind the glove box.

My bypass connector was under the glove box and I was able to clean the timing plate and mark it from under the vehicle. The timing was off. It is running great again.

Thanks everyone..
