Arg! Lifter Noise Getting Worse. 2004 6.0

So when I bought the truck, there was lifter noise and it sounds to me like that is something I have got to deal with in a silverado. But lately it is getting worse. It isn't nearly as torquey as I would expect so my question is........ How much would the lifters be affecting the compression?

are we talking ticking on acceleration or what? is it cold there? almost all vortecs makes noises its the nature of the beast

How many miles? I've heard GM extending the warranty on engines with lifter noise to 100K. I'd check first before laying down any cash.

Sure it's not GMT800 piston slap? It's the GMT900 platform that's famous for lifter issues.

Are you sure its not an exhaust leak @ the manifold? 6.0's are notorious for the bolt heads snapping off.

I'll get the exaust leak ruled out, but I do think it is a lifter noise. I will check with the dealer for warrantee. Thanks for the information.

almost all vortecs makes noises its the nature of the beast

Mine had some mad rocker clacking going on as a result of the sludge under the valve covers (I was a Castec heads victim). My new motor is dead quiet.

Nah, it's pretty quit. When I say dead quiet I mean dead quiet compared to the old one. There have been a couple times when I've forgotten I've already cranked it and turned the key again.

A truck isn't a truck if its quiet!.My 99 has a tick around 2500 rpm sounds like and exhaust leak to me.But i do get some noisy knocking on cold starts.Not real loud just loud enough.But it goes away so im not to concerned.Truck has 150000 miles knock on wood the only thing it needed was a new thermostat.But ill be doing the FPR shortly.PS this trucks are know for knock sensors,cold start slapping/knocking.

Since its a 04 non afm iron head 6.0..................

 

Have you ruled out broken exaust manifold bolts?

Do you note "ticking" noise is loudest at idle or when next to a building?

 

If so its prob. the fuel injectors pulsing....................

 

Both my 01 and 04 2500 6.0s did it ! Sorta drove me crazy.

Dealers said "normal operation" and let me hear it for myself with a auto

stethoscope. I just got used to it.....................
