Speeding Ticket over the weekend

I was heading to work Saturday morning about 7am when it all went down. I was on time but I was trying to give myself enough time to get something to eat before I got on the train.

This is the sad part. Whenever I'm hot footing it on the interstate I always stay focused as far ahead in the opposing lane as I can. I guess I was in some kind of a daze because I was on a very open, long stretch of interstate with no one around. I didn't see the Trooper until he was already comming throught he grass after me  ??? DUH!

I tried kissing butt by pulling over right away, (no reason to play the "I'm innocent" routine), I pulled all the way over to the side with one tire in the grass so he would have plenty of shoulder to walk on, Rolled my window down, and kept my hands on the wheel where he could see them. None of this did me any good.

I tried to be casual and polite but it was no use. He told me he would have to write me a citation for 83 in a 65 and a written warning for the side tint then went back to the car.

I noticed his name before he left and knew it was somehow familiar. Then it hit me. He only lives a few blocks from me in this town of 1500. I had seen his cruiser in front of his house and that name on the vanity plate of his SUPER DUTY. :jester:

After he gave me my "driving awards" I brought this to his attention. His response was a wink and "nothing personal"

Oh, well. First one I've had in 2.5 years. I can get court supervision to keep it off my record. Most importantly my wife didn't get mad.

 #### Ford guys, huh??? And pulled you over in a Crown Vic, No doubt, too probably...  :jester: Ive been fortunate here in NM... Evrytime I get pulled over Im just completely honest and give the response "no excuse, sir/mam" when they ask for one... Guess here in this state they give a break to the few honest people...

Go to court, go to court, go to court!

I rack up usually 3 or 4 a year and I have a full time legal team that takes care of everything for me.

Usually what happens is that you can strike a deal with the D.A./Prosecuter before you even see the Judge.  Usually the deal you strike with them by pleading guilty is a shorter time for supervision and a lower fine than if you just plead guilty and send in payment.

The benefit to having my legal team represent me is that they know all the D.A.'s in all the courts throughout Chicago and know most of the Judges, so long before my name is even called on roll call, I'm already done and I don't even have to show up.

The one time I did show up with him, court started at 9: 00am, I was out by 9: 01am.

I also try to spread out my tickets over different court jurisdictions.  For instance, I live in DuPage cty, but my last one was in Cook.  This is good because I was living off the last month of my DuPage county supervision, and got a fresh one now in Cook.

Very true indeed... I always sign for court.. Usually I can get my citations deferred for 90 days...

~Something My friend told a cop one time...   "Smoke always comes off my tires."  The officer laughed so hard that he only gave a warning...

Full time legal team ???  That is great all i can think of is OJ and Johnny C.

Been pulled over twice.  1st time i was guilty.  Me and another car were traveling on US30 both going the same speed (over 55 clocked at 76).  I seen the cop turn around in the grass so i slowed down and let him catch up and the other guy took off.  State cop was real nice.  He didnt believe me that i was going fishing though.  I had to argue with him a little (rods were in the back).  I was only 17 at the time.  Cop gave me a warning which was nice.

2nd time i was innocent.  Said i didnt yield to the right away.  I argued i didnt care.  I was like the guy was in the left turning lane and i started to make my left and he decided to cut you off (the guy cut the cop off pulled in front of him) and sped through the intersection (which i was already more than halfway through).  I said didnt you hear the buzz (ricer) of his engine.  Cop started to stutter and was like well ill let you off with a warning WTF a warning???  Then backup came (3 more cops).  I couldnt believe it.

Speeding Ticket over the weekend

Bummer man!

I used to be a "Gold Member" of the states "Vehicle collection Fund" as well.  I have received 3 tickets in one week before!!     Talk about feeling like a target!

I can't complain too much though, I have seen my fair share of leniency.  A "friend of the family" Trooper let me off for 147 mph in a 55 zone.  It took him 3 miles to catch me.  I didn't even know he was back there.  He let me off with a "Do it again, and I'll tell your mom!"  I was 17 at the time.  I also got caught on a back road doing 90 in a 55 late for work.  I came around a curve and he was comming the other way.  By the time the cop got turned around, I had stopped, pulled over, and was out the car with my license and registration.  He let me go with the understanding that he would call the neighboring county (where I worked) and have them look out for me.  He said that if I got pulled, he would come get me and take me to jail.

LOL!!  I gotta remember that one next time I get pulled over in the Z.  "But Officer, my tires are always on fire!"

Mark, I have an even better one (although I wasn't doing 147), I was racing a Jeep in our Lumina, I was pulling on him hard, I was WELL over 100 when I saw the shadow of a light bar ahead, so I jammed the 'whoa' pedal and brought it down to a respectable 92mph by the time he got a lock on me.  This in a 45 mind you.

Anyway, in Illinois anything 30+ is a mandatory $2,000 fine that you have to pay 10% of up front in order to not occupy a bar clad hotel room.  So I follow the fine Officer back to the pig pen, he asks for $200 right away which like most people I don't carry $200 spare dollars around with me, so I had to go to the cash station to get it.

Anyway, court date comes, my legal representative goes and starts talking to the D.A..  Turns out, the D.A. was friends with his brother, he says, "tell you what, why don't you come over Sunday for a BBQ if you work with my boy here."  No problem, the D.A. says.  Hmmmmm...I know this is a pretty hefty ticket, but how about 3month supervision and $150 fine.  I say "F*CK YEA!!!"

So I go before the Judge, he reads the deal/disposition that I made.  Made a few comments to the people in court "That Mr. CMNT was obviously was trying for his pilots license" and hands my record to the court clerk.  The court clerk then says "$150 please?"  My reply..."well, I paud $200 upfront already, don't I get $50 back?"  The judge heard this and just looked at me and "Said, who did you "honor" to work that deal?"  To which the entire courtroom was on the floor by now.....The clerk looks back at me....."YES....YOU"LL GET YOUR $50 Back IN TWO WEEKS BY MAIL" in a rather agitated fashion.

Supervision is the way to go. I usually don't talk to the D.A. or anyone about it until they call my name in court. Then when I'm in front of the judge I ask for court supervision. To which he replies "You are supposed to work that out with the D.A. before hand." Then I say "Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't sure how all this worked"

I have been on CS in three different counties at once this way. Then on the exact day after it ended in the first county, I was back there in front of the same States Attorney and same judge for the same charge 71 in a 55 with a commercial vehicle. I choose to have some representation that time and had a smaller fine and shorter time to serve ???

I never have been in the clink for speeding though Cmnt. good thing you work for an insurance company. :jester:

Cour Supervision is where you pay a little higher fine and the court will keep your offense off of your driving record provided you don't get another ticket in a set time period. Usually 30 days. Around here you usually end up paying total of about a hundred bucks.

I did get a ticket in Cooper county MO. once. I was going under 20 over and the fine was $187. I called the States attorney and asked about supervision and it was going to cost me $440.    I let them issue a warrant for me before I sent them their $187. That ticket went off my record last month.

What Hogger said.  If after that specified period which isually around here ranges from 30 days to 6 months, the ticket is erased from your record and it's as if nothing happened.  Well, almost...the local authorities have still collected additional revenue.

Hmm...court supervision...we don't have that here.  The only offense our judge ever does a suspended sentence with usually is underage alcohol, it's more of a diversion program...AA meetings and community service = no criminal record.

Had 2 speed trials today.  The first 1 changed his plea to no contest.  The second pled nc as well and the judge waived the points.  That's about the best you'll get here(OH) for speed is a low fine and points suspended.

I think that court supervision is kind of bs.  It's basically ignoring poor drivers and giving them the opportunity to commit offenses again without having a track record following them.  I mean there are those that make mistakes, good people, I know I got a few tickets in my college years, but I took responsibility for them and that was that.  2 years and the points are off your license.  3 years for the insurance company.

I just know that Ohio gives out 12 point suspensions, and this court supervision would kind of defeat that.  Those who choose to violate the mv laws should be dealt with accordingly.  CS seems like just a money maker.  I mean I give people a fair amount of tolerance- usually 15+ before writing or stopping, so they can't complain too much.  The troopers obviously will have less tolerance.  Heck, I wrote some 85 or so yo lady last week for blasting down 1 of our main routes through town at 65 in a 35 if I recall.  She was also weaving left of center and didn't stop right away even after several siren tones.  Hmm...re-test form.

It's like my mom always said, balance and moderation.  If you're being reasonable, usually you won't have a problem.  Enough of my soapbox for tonight.

I have never heard of that supervision thing either.  Only thing we have is traffic schoool.  No court involved, you basically admit guilt, go to the traffic office, ask for traffic school and they reduce your fine some and take a point or two off of your ticket.  That is what I did with my first ticket.  My second one the lady at the traffic court office just cut it down to a parking violation and made me pay a couple of bucks and no traffic school; and for no reason too, so I was happy.
