Hid Install Problems?

Hey guys Im new to the forum and I just picked up an 11 Sierra 1500 Z71. I want to upgrade the low beams and fog lights to an 8k or 10k HID set up. Now I have HID's in my camaro and on my quad so Im not new to them by any means, but Ive heard there a big PITA to install on the newer body style sierras. Im wondering how bad it actually is to do. I am a mechanic so touching a tool doesnt make it a hard job for me (haha). I just dont want to rip half the truck a part to upgrade an already decent factory headlight set up. Thanks for reading

it's not so much a pain to install hids as it is just to get the housing out or get access to the passenger side low beam. The earlier models were easier because you just pulled a pin or two and out poped the housing. But it's still easy as far as mods go.

Now are the daytime running lights and the low beam headlights the same bulb? if so will the hids still work with the drl's? And what exactly do you need to do to gain access to the backs of the headlights?

The low beams are your DRLs just at a lower voltage. It's better if you pull the fuses to disable the DRLs with HIDs. To access the passenger side headlight you have to remove the airbox and the intake tube. Not really a big deal.
