I thought about it, but I didn't

I was driving a 03 Silverado, I looked at a 08 F150 Lariet 4X4.

*One used truck I looked at was black, tailgate was repainted - badly, and the dealer was a prick, so I just left it on the table.

*I also got some online price quotes from a dealer on new trucks, they were pricier than the GM equivalent, not by much, but a couple thousand.

*The GM 4X4 truck had "auto" mode, figured it would come in handy (I love this feature in the rain).

*GM trucks are more modification/ aftermarket friendly, plus I had tuning knowledge for the GM platform, I didn't know where to start for Ford.

*I felt more comfortable with GM's layout - but that has more to do with me never owning but GM.

I looked at them alot before I bought my 2010 Silverado last month.. They just didn't do it for me..for the same price I would have gotten the they're 5.4 V8, and almost no options.. I just didn't like the F150 layout inside either. .. the f-250 is ok, but alot more ..

Last March I traded my one year old F-250 5.4L for the Silverado 1500. The Ford was a nice heavy duty truck, but the 5.4 drank gas and my payments were a bit high. They were practically giving away the 2010 Obama Motors trucks, so I went for it. THe 5.3 liter is essentially the same HP and much better on gas. I plow residential drives and this truck handles them quite well.

I traded my '04 Lightning w/32,000 miles for an '11 Z71 Silverado regular cab just before Christmas. I loved the Lightning, but have to admit that the new Chevy is actually more comfortable to drive. The Lightning was quick and handled like no other truck I'd owned or driven, but it got to the point where I didn't want to drive the Lightning in the winter, even though I had mounted winter radials which I'd swap out for the winter. I was a bit too obsessed with keeping it clean and wasn't having as much fun with it as I had earlier. Heck, I only put 1500 miles on it the last year I owned it and got bored with keeping it stock, but just couldn't bring myself to mod it enough to run 12 second passes as I had always intended. I went out and bought an '01 Ranger as a daily driver just to keep the mileage down on the Lightning and keep it clean. It was time to move on to something different and I wanted something w/4 wheel drive again as I had previously owned a '92 Z71 which I had great luck with. I like the new F-150s, but got a much better deal on the Silverado with all of the rebates they had last month. Just drove 5 hours yesterday in the Silverado and it was a very comfortable trip. Anyone want to buy an '01 Ranger in great shape?

I just sold my 03 Ford F-150 Supercrew FX4 that I owned for 6 years, and I went that same afternoon and bought my GMC. That F-150 was the best truck I have ever owned when it comes to reliability and low maintenance. I had 161,000 miles when I sold it, and I replaced the rear axle seals, one window motor, pitman arm, compass/temperature display, and a shift fork for the 4x4 (my fault on breaking that). The truck used 1 quart of oil every 4,000 miles at the time I sold it. I just grew bored with seeing so many of the same looking F-150s on the road. The new F-150 body style really does nothing for me, and I didn't think the looks of the GMC could be beat. I'm sure the new F-150s have some cool features, but I'm extremely happy with what my GMC has to offer. I'd drive another Ford in a heartbeat with the good luck I had, but I wouldn't trade my GMC for one. I used to be very partial to Ford, but it's good to be on the GM side of things.

I had a 2002 Lightning, and it was a blast. The truck was only for driving fast and looking good though. I didn't have room for anything, couldn't haul anything in the bed, couldn't pass a gas station, and it didn't get along well with the cops.

I've owned both. My last 2 were F150's. There are trade offs to each one, so it depends on what you need to do. The only pro to the F150's were more payload, and handling that payload, petal to the metal. 3000 pounds...no problem. My Chevy will haul that much but you can definatley tell its there. I haul 2200 no problem. Pro's for Chevy are for me, better ride, more options for the same money as a base F150, lower stance, more comfortable on trips, auto 4x4 rules in snow and ice, and remote start.

I hauled lots of stuff in my Lightning. Moved kids in and out of college and then out of the house. Can't really think of anything that I needed to haul that I couldn't.

I had a soft tonneau cover that looked good, but it had framework under it so it was a pain to try to haul anything in the bed. I knew it would pull a trailer, but I never tried it. I'd get another one, but it would not be my primary vehicle.

I currently have a 2002 F150 Lariat with 141,000 miles on it. I just payed it off 4 months ago, so i have no plans in the near future to get rid of it but when i do a GMC will replace it. It has been relatively pain free to own it, all in all. Had the idle air control valve go bad, cleaned the intake and throttle body, but other than that, just tires, brakes, and oil changes. Still runs good and gets about 20 mpg on interstate with good gas, not winter blend crap...But the new Sierras have won me over. This was my first non-GM vehicle, but i'll be back when this one dies off.

I have owned lots of Fords over the years and I will be the first to say that Ford makes a fine product, for me it usually comes down to the local dealer (GM or Ford) having the truck I am looking for (option and price wise).

With the new engines that the 2011 Fords are coming with there will be a lot of converts, Great Engines, Electronic Locker and you can run 35"s with just a leveling kit, whats not to like.

The local Ford dealership just got a 2011 Lariat in with the 6.2L, I have been wanting to test drive it just to get a feel for the new engine. (I am still about a year out from buying a new truck but I like to see what the competition has to offer).

Don't forget to give us your first impressions once you do test drive...........
