Power Rear Window Vs. Electric Defogger

Hey all -- I'm thinking about purchasing a CCSB this year. This will be my first truck. I was a little surprised to learn that you can either order the truck with a powered sliding rear window, or an electric defogger -- not both. I've always owned cars/SUVs before this, so I'm not used to the idea of living without a rear defogger. Is it as much of a hassle as it would be in a sedan to deal with fog back there? I can see the benefits of having a sliding rear window, especially with the relatively short bed that comes with a crew cab.

If you live somewhere cold, which I assume you do since you are even considering the defogger then I would highly recommend it. It would have been nice to have the sliding window, but I use the defogger quite often up here in Canada. Even when the cab is heated up it isn't enough some days to keep the rear window clear. So for me it was a no brainer.

I have a defogger in my 08 and it's great, I know rear sliders are better now than they used to be but I have a slider in my 88 and I hate that thing, it's noisy going down the highway, it leaks water and I was always afraid of someone popping it out and taking something out of my truck.

I've got a slider on mine. It is great in the summers, you can pop your sun roof and the rear slider and you get great airflow and not alot of noise.

I haven't had much of an issue with it fogging up in the winter up here in alberta. I do have a canopy though so that probably affects it quite a bit.

I live somewhere cold and have never needed a rear defogger (still havent used the one on the Tahoe). I love the power slider especially in summer.

Down here in the South, the power rear slider is the ONLY way to get your empties back into the bed and be able to talk to the dog. Don't need no defroster.

I have a 08 SD with that same short bed. I haven't had any issues hauling stuff (lumber, etc). Just strap it across in the front/back of the bed and it doesn't move. I loved the rear refroster, and I have AC for the summer, so don't have a real reason to have the sliding window. I suppose if you use it for work and haul a lot of long stuff, then the slider would be nice since you could put long shat through the window.

well i dont have any sliding windows on either of my trucks, but my 03 silvy has a defogger and i have yet to use it once this winter... it wouldnt be a question on what to choose for me, go with the slider

This truck, compared to my 1999, has 1 more liter of displacement, 2 more cylinders, 2 more driving wheels, an extra row of seats, nicer interior, power seats, MP3 CD player, and much much more. But the rear defrogger is my favorite new feature! :D:fume:

Whether it's frost or fog, it'll be gone. :D

I had a sliding rear window in my old Ford and in the Tacoma and never, ever opened either one. That's what air conditioning is for and I hate wind noise more than I could ever hope to describe. I'd want the defogger as long as it is reasonably powerful (the one in my current car is real weak sadly).

I have the defogger, I've turned it on once (cold rainy day).

I wish I had the power slide rear window, would come in handy for hauling long stuff without the need for a trailer.

both have their pluses and minuses, I usually park in a garage and we rarely get cold enough for frost, much less ice so I think I could get more use from a sliding rear window. another consideration, I don't really care to look out the back glass of my truck unless I need to see in the bed or if I'm pulling a narrow trailer, in those instances I just need a glance in the bed, I could open a sliding window way faster than a defogger could make the window clear.
