I did a mechanical question thing at autozone eyesterday and got an application to be a part sale guy. Go back today with the app, and the girl tells me to wait(strange, cause when my friend turned his in that was all) she gave it to the manager, and he looks at it and asked me my name, and he looked suprised that I was this person or something. so he looks through, and asked why I couldn't work sunday, I said church, and he said I'd have to work sunday, and I told him I could during certain hours. He asked my age, when I told him 17, he told me that the AutoZone rule was you had to be 18. This stinks, appearently I answered the auto questions right and how I rated myself in auto knowledge on the survey(6 diff questions) was good enough to work there. too bad I'm not old enough, I might have a job right now.

That sucks.  It seems like people below 18 are basically stuck with taking care of old people, food service and child care.  I lucked out last summer with a van maintenance job...unfourtunately I didn't get service hours from it (I NEED service hours!!! ).

Alot of places have a you have to be 18 rule.  I know when i started at menards one of the first things they asked was if i was 18 (which i was) because i was going to be working in the lumber yard (using saws, forklifts, etc)

Ahh, the ole insurance/liability gag heh!

When I was 16. I was working in a frozen food warehouse. I put in a lot of hours because I was greedy. Looking back I wish I had used my time to do stuff that I don't get to do now.

same here

wk i graduated hs i got my 1st job.  Worked 60-70 hrs a wk that summer.  20-30 when i started school.  Next summer i got an internship.  Worked 2 jobs 80-90 hrs a wk that summer (i was  :jester: )  During school 20-30 again.  April had enough to buy the truck and i did.

Greed is good sometimes but make sure you have fun also.  I left the fun part out for 2 yrs but i am now making up for it (taking trips working less etc)

I agree w/ you Hogger, looking back I wish I had taken more time off to have fun.  When I was 15 I started working 40 hrs a week doing drafting during the summer and 20 hours while still in school.  After graduation I did 40 hrs a week during the summer and on average about 30 a week during the semester.

Trust me, you never look back and say I wish I had worked more.  I wish I had taken more days off and had some more fun while I was in school, but I'm trying to live it up now, which is pretty hard since I need to earn money for tuition, car payments, insurance, etc...

My best advice: Live for free and mooch off your parents as long as you can :jester:

I'm living that.  I'm 22, a college graduate, have no job, and live with my parents. :jester:

It's not as fun as it sounds...

Well, I'm not quite as bad as you.  I'm 20, just finishing up college within a year hopefully, but right now I've got no real job prospects and don't even have close to enough money to live on my own.  The only bad part about it is being an adult, but being treated like you're still 12 :flag:

Similar to-- you have to have experience for the job, but how can you get experience without the job?

If you are qualified, maybe an independent will hire you. Knowledge is not age dependent. But, I can see where a company policy may be in place.

Good luck. Don't give up.

I think I'll run by NAPA(but they might have the same rule), but they always are full of workers, but who knows. I need to stop my CompUSA too. Probably do that in a few days.
