Coolant Leak

I noticed a coolant leak on my garage floor and upon investigation I found the leaky hose in the picture below. The hose is metal from the radiator then switches to rubber and then back to metal again and disappears somewhere below the engine. It seems to be leaking where the metal part is crimped onto the rubber part. I'm assuming this hose leads to the heater.

This hose looks as if it would be a PITA to replace. True? What would be the best way to fix the leak? Is there a way to fix the leak without replacing the hose?

Great! I'm glad to hear the lines are engine oil cooling lines. That means it's covered under my powertrain warranty, right?

Thanks a lot guys!

UMMM maybe, powertrain used to cover this but at some point they removed hoses and lines of any kind from the powertrain warranty.

If they were included on the in service date for your vehicle then they are. If they changed the policy before the vehicle was put in service they will not.

Call dealer with your vin to find out if they are covered. If they say no, call another one or two and verify.

I just talked to the dealership and the engine oil cooling lines are NOT covered under warranty. I'm going to try the Owner Assistance Program and try to get them to cover it under their Goodwill.

Wish me luck.

The dealership decided to cover the repair under the Customer Satisfaction/ Goodwill coverage. They said it would cost me a $150 deductible. Does that sound right? If they are going to cover it, it should be $0.00. Right?

Not necessarily. Do you have a copy of your powertrain warranty showing what is included or excluded? If engine oil cooling hoses are not specifically included or excluded by your warranty then it sounds like they are meeting you halfway. After all, if they say they are not covered then they really don't have to provide you with jack. Extended warranty parts coverages change from year to year. You really need to find out for yourself if your 2007 powertrain warranty covers engine oil cooler lines or not. Don't just take their word for it. They should be able to provide you a printout of the 2007 warranty guide, if you don't have your own

If they really are excluded, you probably should pay the $150 and move on.

I picked up my truck this afternoon and they only charged me $100. I have nothing to complain about.
