Got A New Car

Well, since I had a truck already. I wanted to get a car and was thinking, what does people have, that most people doesn't have around here. I see tons & tons of Mustangs. Most over-rated car in America. Camaros, challengers, civics. etc. So I was thinking, I always liked the appearance of the G8's. Then, it hit me, Boom! I want a G8!! and was looking around for 2 weeks and couldn't find a G8 GT anywhere. So I finally found one that was under 100 miles away from my area, went test drove it & fell in LOVE with it!! Plus with that V8, I can add big HP too it!

I noticed that the car came with a CAI already had on it & has somewhat of a decent sounding exhaust on it. Some small things that are broke in on the inside, where you tilt your seats back or forward. Only thing that is wrong on the inside. Exterior, the car is in great condition, except someone didn't clean the exhaust tips all that much. Other than that, I can't complain too much on the car.

Feels like it has a tune on it, but its probably just me, it cuts off at 140, is that stock for? I'm guessing some of the G8 owners, will know?

Here are some pics of the car after I washed it, sorry about cell phone quality pics.

Nice!

It looks like a Roto Fab intake on there. The wheels are aftermarket, and if you can hear the exhaust at all, the exhaust is modified as well. The stock exhaust is super quiet on the GTs. I'm actually not sure on the stock speed limited. I think it's at 137...but not sure. A good tune will really wake up the car, though. :P

Thanks for the compliments guys! It has 19" TSW rims on it and Fuzion ZRi tires on it, they any good? Whats a better exhaust system I can get for it that adds power, and are those CAI any good?

Well they didn't know WTF they were talking about. Both the GTO and the G8 have parts galore available for them because their sister cars in Australia, the UK, the UAE, and other places sold like gangbusters.

Nobody has been able to solve the exhaust problems. People have been buying 1k exhaust setups and pulling them off after 2 weeks. The best system so far is the Solo exhaust with the J bend pipes in it. It most likely isn't tuned because the cut out at 138ish stock.

No idea about performance bits...just saying I like your new car man.

Is it a stick or a slush box?

Auto, with sport shift. & thanks man.

You just had to show that video didn't ya? lol

My plans are on the back are gonna take the Pontiac letters and the dealers emblem off. Leave the G8 GT on there. Plus, I'm gonna get some subs for it, 2 12's or 1 15? I'm feeling the 15. Needs new tires on it by Summer probably. Gonna get Goodyear or Nitto's. Anyone else have an opinion of what else I should do to it?

Get a good tune, and Michelin pilots are a really good tire too.

The A6 is better for performance....I do however like banging gears...even if I am a couple tenths slower than the guy in the auto.

LS1tech.com is a good site for these cars. Lots of good knowledge there.

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
