So what is this Oil Catch Can all about.

Apologize for some if offended about reviving this dead thread, but felt the question was appropriate and had not been answered here. Good thing for all folks to take a look at.

The purpose is simple.... remove the oil and associated particulates from the crankcases gasses before they make it to the intake manifold. This oil can cause problems down the line with build up in the manifold and build up of crud on valves, throttle bodies, etc. This oil can also negatively affect combustion, so that the ECM has to adjust to Low Octane settings and subsequently power, performance, and fuel mileage suffers.

Most folks do not have a clue about all of this going on, and that is why it is rarely discussed. If you go to performance oriented forums, you will find much more discussion of this. Go to performance parts suppliers online, and you can find PCV oil separator products all over the place.

I just purchased a 2013 Siverado with 5.3L, and it will be getting a PCV oil catch can very soon.
