3" Lift Blocks

Obviously I've got an '06 Z71 with 2.5" keys, 3" body lift, and stock 2" rear blocks. The keys are all the way down, and my rear still isn't as tall as the front. I'd like to get more lift by trimming the stock blocks and stacking (I know, I know) the 3" on top of the 2" and crank the front some more. I need an alignment anyways, so what the heck. Opinions?

Here's a pic for reference:

I'll get my fender measurements tomorrow to paint a better picture on the reasoning behind wanting the blocks.

Man, you got a nice truck. I like the look a lot.

Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn't stack the blocks. It's a little dangerous with blocks that big. I've seen people stack 2" on top of the factory NNBS's 1.25" blocks, but not to many stacking that tall of blocks. Not saying it can't/hasn't been done, but if it were me, I would invest in a solid 5" block. Either way, your truck will be more "bouncy" in the rear, but that is due to the larger blocks. You could also look at a smaller block and adding a leaf spring in the back. Just my opinion. I've seen some people that stack them (maybe not that high) with no issues, I've seen some that have nightmare stories of the axle rolling with stacked blocks, and others like me who just bought a solid block instead of stacking them. Some lifts actually call for stacking them which I don't think is safe. The rough country I had came with another block to stack. I decided to buy a solid one to be on the safe side instead of stacking the 1.75" block on top of the 1.25" factory one for the 3" of lift in the back.

Thank ya sir. She gets me around I guess. :dunno: I guess I didn't think this entirely through. But the problem is I ordered the 3" blocks already, and they'll be in today. So I guess I'm hoping I could sell these and get what I really need. And now the more I think about it, maybe I should go with a 4" so I don't have to crank my keys a whole bunch? Or shoot, maybe I'll just put the 3" in, crank the front, and call it a day.

I WOULD NOT STACK BLOCKS. Very unsafe! You can have them shift or worse, fall out after shifting. Get the correct lift block and don't mickey mouse it :dunno:

Do it right or don't do it at all :P

Got my blocks today!! I'm still debating whether or not to sell these on craigslist and buy some 4 or 5 inchers, or just throw these 3" ones on and crank the keys a few turns. Hmmmm.

I wouldn't stack the blocks. I think it would be better to get a larger block with the proper taper to help reduce axle wrap and maintain a good pinion angle. The bigger the block, the more wrap you will have.

Yea, I gave up on the stacking idea. I did it on my old '85 Sierra, but it was strictly for mud and saw zero highway miles. I have the 3" sitting on the back seat, but I haven't pulled the trigger quite yet. Since the Z already comes with a small block, my Pro Comp keys are all the way down, and the rear is still lower than the front, I don't know which size block I need to raise the rear a good amount so I can crank the front to make it sit higher. Maybe I'll get some 5" blocks. I hopefully am able to go about 2 inches with the keys and keep the front and rear level.

Well, here's the only pic I've got at the moment. Traded a local guy my 2" and 3" blocks for his 5 inchers. Cranked the front and left about an inch of thread left, so I hope I won't have anything wear out fairly soon. From the ground to the bottom of the front fender I've got 43 inches, and the rear is 44.5 inches.

So now let's recap - I've got the Pro Comp 2.5" keys, 5" blocks, 3" body lift, Pro Comp ES 3000 shocks, 35x12.50x17 BFG KM2's, and Dick Cepek DC-2's. Not too shabby if you ask me :banghead:
