Was Rear Ended (no Pics)

I was rear ended today at a stop light. The lady was probably going 3-4 mph. All it did was scratch up my trailer hitch(very minimal damage I might add). I have all the information gathered and I am going to file a claim. It did a fair amound of damage to the front of her 07 Honda Accord.

But, my main question here is..should I be concerned about a about the trailer hitch possibly being damaged where I cannot see it? Also, is this a fix where someone can just resurace the face of the trailer hitch? Thanks in advance guys.

Do not file a claim with your insurance as it was not your fault! But you want to notify your insurance of it in case you have a problem with the other party... Been here done this.

Some biatch ran into the back of me. My tow hook that sticks out of my hitch sliced thru there license plate and ripped apart the front bumper / fascia / airdam of her saturn vue....

Just some small scratches in paint on hitch and bumper cap, small scratch.

I got the check from her insurance, and touched it all up myself.

Only thing to check back there mainly is the tow adapter plug.. make sure its not broken or bent..

This is the nice thing about having a solid chunk of steel on the back of a truck... No car can stand up to it! Simply because they are lower , and there hood takes the damage!

Thanks for the reply. I am not going to file the claim under my insurance..I got all of the other drivers infomation. Calling All State to claim it under her insurance first thing in the morning. I looked at the adapter plug and it looks good. As I stated earlier..the damage is very minimal..but the matter of the fact is that there is damage. I was worried that somehow the trailer hitch itself could have gotten bend underneath where I cannot get a good look at it.

in the mean time bring the truck YOURSELF to a reputable body shop, preferably a GM dealer's body shop and have it inspected. There may be damage to the bumper/ brackets that you aren't seeing. They can inspect everything and give you reassurance that no further damage is present. Her insurance will want to inspect it also, or they may just offer you $20 to repaint the thing, but I would have my own estimate performed.

Tennessee98, sorrry that happend to you. I would take it to a few body shops just to make sure the frame wasn't tweaked. Going that slow you should be in the clear, but sometimes when the hitch takes the brunt of the impact, it can tweak the frame. Again, i would think not, but always good to check it out. I take it you are in Knoxveags too? Where did it happen?

Look under and check the welds to make sure they aren't cracked. Also check the bolts that connect it to the frame and make sure they are not bent.

Must be nice, here in NY we can get a ticket for having our trailer hitch in without using it. The only thing they allow is a pindle hook style hitch to remain in the reciever. (EDIT: Didn't realize you were from NY)

This hasn't stopped me from leaving mine in...

    • From what I gather, you have a 2.7 Diesel  You cannot use Chevron gas in it.  Howes has a diesel add-in and it states it cleans injectors.  Me personally, wouldn't bother with it.  If it's not broke, don't fix it.     Just my two cents worth.
    • Looking up on the web you can the information that would seem obvious. You asked engine components to do more. You get more wear. The answer is they can last just as long but required more maintenance. Apparently having to change lifters, cam and associated components are maintenance or repairs. In some research the normal life span of valve train components are 80-100 miles with 3-5K miles oil change. So the next logical conclusion would be cost per mile. I use that analogy with my wife all the time with vehicles. My Odyssey is approaching 170K. The cost per mile will go up at 200K with maintenance. Looking at a low cost car. A K-4 with a 10-10 warranty. Selling my Ridgeline that’s about to hit the same maintenance milestone. My argument becomes not only I get worry free driving. But at no cost increases. Because I take the money from my Ridgeline and maintenance savings and other potential savings. I’m driving for free. So tying it with a bow. It makes you wonder. Is this a grand conspiracy by the auto makers? Raise the potential maintenance high enough. Buyers by extended warranty to 100K miles. Do the minimum maintenance required. Trade in at the warranty end. How long should they last? That question is what keeps people up at night. The answer is much more complicated than it used to be.
    • Could you cite your source on this?  I cannot find any reference to the US secretly taking the oil.  I find references that the US helped oil tankers move through the Strait of Hormuz, but nothing about what you're stating.
    • Same thought, also the everything doesn't have the details real photos do (talking about the noise in the photo)
    • Since the media YOU and your buddies are programmed to watch failed to mention this, I'll fill you in.   Trump admitted today that we've grabbed 150 MILLION barrels of oil from the Iranian tankers locked in the Strait by our Navy. We turned off their transponders, took them out to sea in the dark of night since they have zero radar capabilities anymore, offloaded every drop onto another vessel, and put them back by morning so no one was the wiser. That oil has been en-route THROUGHOUT the entire conflict.   Main reason he admitted this is to let even guys on our own side who joined leftists in complaining about the prices that he hears us all, and has taken steps to make sure this didn't spiral into a BAD situation ... just like the mainstream media has been PRAYING would happen, just so they could gloat. Amazes me how these people are rooting for the destruction of THEIR OWN HOME, just to make a President they don't agree with or like look bad! That's next level TDS!   I know your not capable of giving our President the benefit of the doubt, again due to your deep programming, but THIS is why oil never hit $150 a barrel as predicted by your programmers, AND the reason oil continues falling. Like I said before, Trump's got a plan, and this is proof of it. By the end of his term, we're going to be in GREAT shape for a change!   Since I just spent $3,000 this week on #2 heating oil and gasoline, the war most certainly is ending! 🤣   https://mxmnews.com/article/ba359ac9-2711-4851-92de-187f2400f2dd?breaking-trump-cancels-iran-strikes-deal-now-approved-by-all-parties
