N2BRK Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Hi guys - I'm trying to figure out a tow rating for my Dad's new truck, but GM's site doesn't even list this combo on their trailering page!!! He has a 2011 1500 Crew Cab 2wd with the small v8 and a 3.08 rear. It is an available option for the rear on this truck, but the tow charts only show the 3.73. We just pulled his boat of around 6,000lbs on flat south Jersey land, and the trans temps were from 190 to 205 depending. ' Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Wally
old dog Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 i think that truck was just designed to haul people around not cargo of any substantial size ,because of the engine size and gearing .you really need atleasta 5.7 to 6.0 to and at least 3:73 gears ,or your going to tax it to much .any thing can be done if yiou want to bad enough . you might look at this we haveused them as overdrives talk to to them about the under drive senario for your truck . http://www.gearvendors.com/ Hi guys - I'm trying to figure out a tow rating for my Dad's new truck, but GM's site doesn't even list this combo on their trailering page!!! Z45 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I agree, too little truck for a boat that size. Not only are you pulling the boat, you probably have it and the truck loaded with gear and probably several people, all adding to the work load for the truck. If I had a boat that size, nothing less than a 2500 would I consider safe to tow with.

N2BRK Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 OOPS!!! Just got off the phone with him - it's not a 3.08. It is a 3.23 rear. A little better.
