Gmt-800 Mirror Popped Loose

I recently bumped into the drivers side mirror on my truck causing it to now move around freely. I pulled off the mirror and noticed that the washer had come loose off of the post that provided the spring to the mirror. I have tried using open end wrenches and a variety of other methods but have not been able to force the washer back onto its post. Has anyone been able to force the washer back into place?
