MaverickZ71 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Looking at replacement tires in the factory stock P265/65R-18 size. Have narrowed the field down to being interested in Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2, Michelin LTX M/S2, and Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor in this size. Would appreciate any comments on pros/cons associated with any of these tires. I have questions about the Michelin's ability in snow, if the Revo has a smooth ride with that wild tread pattern, and the Goodyear's quality. Thanks!
Fobroader Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I have REVO2 on the new truck......meh, not something I would ever buy again, on gravel, theyre scketchy as hell and get ripped apart easily. On wet pavement, they are squirmy, can feel through your ass the tire isnt planted.
mhenshaw Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I would choose the Revo over the Silent Armor any day. As far as Michelin they are great tires but nothing I would ever put on my truck, maybe a car though.
papastoy Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I put the Michelin MS2's on last year. I just barely got through some deep snow in 4Hi on my un-plowed county road this January. If I had it to do again, I would look at the Michelin AT2 or the new Cooper ATR3.
zalez Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I have the MS2's . I haven't had a problem with them yet. Most snow I have had to drive through with them on is probably 8". Holds very well on ice and wet roads.

I ran Revo's on my Jeep Rubicon and my wife's Grand Cherokee. I replaced LTX MS on the Grand Cherokeewith Revo's resulting in much improved handling and breaking in the rain without giving up ride quality or adding road noise. On the Rubicon I replaced the Goodyear MTR's (an off roadtire) with Revo's and was amazed at the off road capacity and how it transformedthe vehicle from dreaded road trip machine to the road trip machine of choice. I recently replace the Rubicon with a 2011 GMC 4X4 and the Goodyear's are coming off soon for a set of Revo's. I think the Michelin are good tries but the Revo's deliver on and off road performance and the SilentArmor's aren't even in the same class.

dirtfan21 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I don't know what everyone's hate on Revo 2's is. I ran the piss out of mine for 25,000 miles and they were great. They still had half tread at 25,000+ miles, you could run 80 mph down the highway in a heavy rain without worries, they kicked butt in snow, road quiet, and handled great. To this day they are the best tires I have put on any vehicle I have owned. Hands Down. My only complaint is that the sidewalls could look at bit more aggressive.
cghbuilder86 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 The Michelin are great tires. They're about as quiet and smooth as you'll find. Also they seem to last forever. Probably boost gas mileage very slightly because of being so highway friendly. Not sure about how well they do in snow or offroad. I wanted to pull them off and put on some AT's but then I got to thinking, I do 99.8% of my driving on pavement, and almost no snow in the winter. Hard to beat the performance and miles I'll get out of these tires.
SparkySparks Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I have the Michelin LTX M/S 2 with about 30,000 miles on them so far and still look near new (little wear on the edge from a messed up alignment). I really like them, great in the rain and for the little off road I have done not bad either. We don't get snow in Texas (at least not enough to worry about) so i can't say how they would do in snow. I have done some driving in mud, just a little deeper then the side wall and took a little doing to keep from getting stuck (only a 2WD truck). I also go to the beach all the time and some days the sand was really lose. The days when the sand was really lose and it seemed everyone was getting stuck I didn't have much trouble other then a little bit of slipping and the fiancee freaking out cause she wasn't used to it. I lived up north for 23 years (8 years driving) and slipping in sand wasn't nothing compared to snow and ice. With all that said I think the next set of tires will be more of an AT tire (but not to aggressive) as I plan on making more trips up north during the winter and prefer the way they look more.
KMGZ400 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 i have good year silent armor tires on all 3 of my vehicles and i would never buy them again, they are wearing down WAY to fast. go with michelin LTX, they are expensive, but worth it
maxco Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I had the silent armours and they do provide good traction, but like other's have said they do wear quite quick.
ljburns Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I had a set of Dueler AT Revos on my Pathfinder. What a difference they made. I loved them. Handled well in all conditions and were awesome in the snow. I towed a utility trailer and mowing equipment a couple times per week and they were fine. That is what I will be using to replace my current factory set when they finally go.
AzDragonLord Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Consumer Reports will be updating their LT truck tires reviews this fall...November I think. I'm hoping my factory tires last until then.
