How much damage could I have done while driving in 4WD low for about 20 miles on dry pavement towing a 6000 lbs. travel trailer?

I accidently put the truck into 4WD low thinking I was turning on the lights from reaching out side the cab. Then shifted into neutral and coasted a small amount to check the trailer break gain control. This apparently was the final step for the truck to go into 4WD. I noticed it felt like we were towing a 12,000 trailer. I thought that maybe the tow haul mode was doing something that I had not seen yet. The truck would not go over 40mph (thank goodness) and was turning about 2500 RPM.

After I figured out what I had done my heart sank and I thought I was going to get sick.

The truck ran fine all the way home. No noises or unusual vibrations.

Any feedback would be great.

Man that truck must have pulled out of the whole like a beast. I wouldnt worry about it too much though. Did you not feel the truck hop around corners???

You're probably fine. The trucks are strong enough to survive an "oops" moment like that. I'm guessing you weren't making any tight/sharp turns due to the load on the back, that's really where there would be issues.

If the trucks driving and running fine now, then don't sweat it. Have a beer, lesson learned.

YEP! just in real tight ones. Like when backing and trying to get the trailer out of some tight spots. My wife was a big help. wish I would of had some ear plugs.

Thanks.
