Installing A Whipple

Recommended Posts

Well I finally decided to get it done. I have been thinking about it for a long time now. I took the truck into the shop today to have them install a whipple 2.3l kit. I should get it back sometime saturday. In the meantime here are my baseline numbers with a k&n intake, flowmaster muffler swap and a blackbear tune.

Also very interested in the outcome. Forgive my ignorance, but this is a Denali, so it is a 6.2 right? Is it also AWD? Was the dyno run done on a 4 wheel dyno, and the truck was in AWD for the run? Isn't that something like 20% parasite loss?

That is the 6.2L and it only has 315 RWHP? Doesn't the 6.2L make over 400HP. It makes me wonder how much HP a Stock 6.2L AWD makes to the curb?

You have to remember that typical powertrain loss is usually between 25-30% from what the motor puts out the what gets to the wheels in most truck. I am losing about 23% and conside that pretty good. Am sure the awd are losing more along the lines of 30% due to the transfercase-

Makes me wonder what my 5.3L is putting to the curb. For 2011 it says it has 325 HP. It's the crew cab with Z71 package with 3.43 rear gears.

My guess would be in the 240 range or so. That would be at about 25% loss.

Crazy loss of power. What is a easy way to get the truck up in the 300HP range without voiding warranty?

Without voiding warranty- nothing. Granted some dealers are better than others and may let some modification be acceptable. There are a lot of dealers out there that will not cover repair if they can find a way to relate it back to a modification that has been done.

Anyone know if that GM Performance Intake is any good? It doesn't use oil base filters.
