If I may ask, how much did that set you back, out the door? I can't find pricing.

Retail for the supercharger is $6995.00, plus shipping, plus install, dyno time and tax.

 

I actually did not pay retail but my total cost was $7869.

Thanks... I found the kit for 58xx after I posted the question. More bucks than I thought.

I am thinking that the heat exchanger was a shipping issue after talking with my guy who installed it. He said the packing around the heat exchanger mounting brachet was not very good and the other items may have shifted and crached the weld. The bypass valve he said everyonce it a while he sees one that does not work properly. He said he had not has the issue on the whipple kit but did have it on a maggie kit before.

 

 

I had more time today to drive it back and forth to work and I played with it quite a bit. Hammering the gas as often as I could and I can tell you that with the base tune it really like gas. I am talking like 9.5 mpg's worth in the city (light to light). I am going to do some data loging after i get it back on saturday and see if the tune can be leaned out a little to get a little better gas mileage. Under normal driving if I keep it from going to far over 2000 rpm I was seeing about 12.5 in the city.

 

The trick to get reasonable mileage is to keep the supercharger out of the picture. It will only build boost if it can get air. You will find that light throttle will get you moving as fast as anyone else, and will give you decent mileage. Seems counter productive, you put a blower on, and now you can't use it most of the time, but think about it, you don't need it most of the time.

I am not that concerned with gas mileage. I just want to be able to get the most out if it and I think the current air fuel ratios are a little rich and can be leaned out to get better result. The biggest issues is going to be keeping my right foot out of it all the time. It is so fun to play with and get all over it.

 

I have also noticed that it is true it really keeps with the flow of traffic even while keeping it under 2000 rpm to keep the boost as low as possible.

I will get one up as soon as I can. It has to go back in tomorrow to get the bypass valve replaced to get the full 8lbs of boost. Once I get it back I will get you some type of video. Is there anything specific you want to see. i

Actually, any would work for me because for me, it's not that big of a deal but hey, you asked and I was the first to answer so....... :D

I had a Magnacharger on my 5.3L, and it had almost issues with MPG. I found the truck ended up having a lot better mileage since you got more torque down low, so it didn't need to downshift on slopes and head winds. I think I lost 0.5-1.0MPG on the best days, but the rest of the time, saved me 2-4MPG. I used to get 13MPG @ 70MPH regardless of wind or load in the bed.

 

Of course, if you lay into it, you're going to burn gas since HP=fuel, but normal driving, it was a amazing. Waiting for the money tree to drop the dough for my 6.2L. :)

Well I got the truck back after taking it back in this morning. They did a test on the bypass valve before replacing it to see if it was bad and it turns out it was working perfect. No issues with it at all. After going through it they figured the boost was a little low because of the aftermarket exhaust that I have. SO if I want to get it up over the 8 on the boost all I need is a pully swap no big deal. I already have traction issues right now so I am not it too much of a hurry to swap it out. They strapped it down to the dyno again and did some more tweaking on the tune to get better results. Hopefully I will have the charts monday. The final figures at 6lbs of boost are 414rwhp and 428ft lbs of torque. I am pretty pleased with the results. As soon as I get some time I will get a video made and put up.

    • Thanks, so being a different beast altogether, anyone know what the "optimal" temp is for the 10L80/90 for proper shifting?
    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit. 
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that? 
    • What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way too big headlights (similar to a previous non-Wrangler SUV) should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crossing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
