Congrats...beautiful truck. I had an 04 1500 hemi 4x4 and loved it...not one single complaint about that truck. I sold my 07 2500 CTD megacab laramie fully loaded and bought my current truck. I love the Sierra but big mistake.

I was blinded by the great price and though of small truck payment ( 1/4 less!) and the fact my dodge just had a new tranny and it was acting up again. Ive only had it 3 months and already looking to trade it when the 2012 Rams come out.

Going from a 5.9 diesel to a 4.8 gas is a HUGE difference. Not to mention the lack of the nice features of a sunroof, dvd's and heated leather seats

As long as you don't plan on lifting it and putting big tires, you wont have problems. Thats where I went wrong...didn't do any tranny mods when I did the lift and tires. Because its true...their transmissions SUCK!

I look forward to being back in a loaded diesel truck...but till then, I do enjoy the smooth ride of the Sierra and its good gas mileage ( even if it has no power )

Congrats on the new ride. Not really fair to compare a well equipped, way bigger motored dodge to a base model sierra though. You may have been more happy with the sierra if you would have anted up for a better equipped one with a bigger motor and not in black. Dodges do look better than ever though. Congrats again.

thanks everyone. i drove by the dealership this afternoon to get my salesman's business card - he was a fantastic salesman and i plan to recommend him if anyone i know is looking to buy. they had the Sierra all shined up and ready to buy (though no price posted). snapped a quick pic.

Congrats, Im interested to see what your mileage ends up being so keep us informed. As hard as it is to say, Dodge has come along way. Although their engines have always been strong, their transmissions seem to lack what the GM's do. How well does you tow/haul mode compare to the GM? Im sure better than the 4 speed, but Id like to hear how one compares to the 6.

How do you like the extra room in the second row since now GM has the smallest area in back seat.

as of this moment i'm getting 14.5 mixed highway and city. but there's only 200 miles on the odometer and i can't keep my foot out of it, so i expect it to improve after the engine breaks in and i calm down with my right foot. if i remember correctly my Sierra got around 13mpg (winter driving) for the first 1500 miles or so.

How well does you tow/haul mode compare to the GM? Im sure better than the 4 speed, but Id like to hear how one compares to the 6.

haven't used the tow/haul in the Ram yet and i rarely used it in the Sierra so i don't have a good basis of comparison. a six speed would be nice but not a requirement for me. i don't tow anything, i just use my truck for the occasional trips to home depot etc. truthfully i never had issue with my four speed in the Sierra. it worked fine for me.

How do you like the extra room in the second row since now GM has the smallest area in back seat.

the extra room is nice but i never had a problem getting 2 adults back there in the Sierra either. both cabs offer plenty of room for passengers.

i like the newer rams...i'd be in a ram long before i joined mike rowe in the propagranda commercials....the main gripe i have with ram is that their heavy dutys are lagging behind

Yeh, im not too sure how the rear coils will work in a truck loaded down. On the dodge forums there are alot of guys that are now getting cose to 20 mpg. They get that with a easily acquired engine and 390 hp and what 4- o- something in tq. For GM to get that you have to search for a 6.2 and hope it has everything you wanted or order. And if they get the 6.1 or 6.4 (rumors for 2012 on the dodge forums) that thing will be a beast!

I dont think you will get it in the four eight either. Under powering and full size truck doesn't mean better fuel mileage, the smaller engine works harder to equal a larger one. My 5.3 stock would hang right around the 20 mpg mark on the highway. Did it on multiple trips TN to west Texas. I would stay between 19.4 and 20.8 with the cruise set on 78 (GPS said the same) It would be nice to have an extra 80 in HP and TQ. Dont get me wrong the 5.3 is a reliable engine, its just about 10 years behind in HP technology. It is still hovering just above where the the old Vortec 5.7 was, where the Ford 5.4 started (the 5.4's last update in 09 was to 360 hp and 390 tq). I got it, new engine coming (are we sure cause its not written anywhere...or is it) Ford has pushed out with their line (weather you like it or not) and they are selling trucks more than chevy and GMC combined. The Ford has the most room out of all with Toyota (cant believe i typed that) and Dodge being next and Chevy after that. Granted they all sell different numbers but the bottom line Ford is leading the market and now the technology. The eco boost truck are going and those drivers might just be testing the waters and trade every one of them before the warranty expires but that engine is where every truck should make its power, down low and its diesel low. What will the market do when the make a small V8 TT engine that they can push into the low/mid twenties and they drop that into a 3/4 ton truck. They will OWN that market especially with the higher price of diesel fuel. All they have to do is put it in the middle price range of the standard engine and the diesel. The bad news is, chevy is behind, hopefully the good is that we will see a large change very soon, if not the others will be dropping another big change right after putting them behind again.

Just because your small 4.8 can't hit 20mpg doesn't mean the 6.2L can't hit 20. Running 65mph to the beach this year, my 6.2L with 3.73 gears hit 18mpg average. I don't doubt for a second the 6.2L with 3.42 gears would achieve 20 on the highway if you kept the speed under 70mph. Remember your 4.8 is going to work harder moving the same weight the 6.2 is moving. Actually the 5.3L in most cases will get better mileage than the 4.8L will. My 03 5.3L consistently got 18-19 miles per gallon.

4.8's are very underpowered IMO Its a townie truck. A larger motor would most likely get better gas mileage the 4.8 works too hard to move the tires.

Thats my only regret with this truck...is not getting the larger engine. But going from a chipped 5.9 CTD to a wee 4.8 is a kick in the butt lol

I have to remind myself why I sold my dream truck. No big truck payment anymore...cheaper mileage and a fully functioning transmission lol

The Sierra looks nice and does its job for me. Also the ride in GMC/Chev is unmatched in any fullsize pickup, thats a fact. So for getting groceries and hauling kids around, its perfect. I can't imagine pulling even a teeny trailer with it though. Im curious to see how it is with our quads in the back. All it has to do, is last me 2yrs...and back to my big rig Dodge.
