I just recently bought a 2011 Chevy 1500 5.3, and i have always stuck with hypertech for all my other trucks but this time i was thinking about doing something different. I've heard a little bit about EFI live but i wasnt sure what you guys all thought, or if you guys have it and have any comments about it.

Contact Black Bear Performance. Nothing but GREAT reviews and satisfied customers on this board. I myself plan on having them do a tune because this Predator just isn't cutting it anymore.

How difficult is it to start on your own tuning? I have been thinking about it just cause I'm so particular and like to do it my own way sometimes. I just don't know what the program is going to appear like or how you start to change settings.

You can download the software for free from their website. You can epxlore it and see the various settings you can change. But you have to buy licensing and cables before you can actually tune anything.

How difficult is it to start on your own tuning? I have been thinking about it just cause I'm so particular and like to do it my own way sometimes. I just don't know what the program is going to appear like or how you start to change settings.

its easy to dump tunes into ur rig that are already built, but ive played around with the program a little bit. let me tell you...you can FRY an engine pretty quick if you dont know what you are doing. if you dont know anything about it just get a tune dumped into your truck its hella easier

careful...the best tunes built for you rig are on duramaxforum.com...contact "idahorob". one of the fastest duramax on the planet....very well structured tunes. especially nice and CLEAN

i know a few guys around alberta that are good with it, one guy sat down with me and showed me a few things..well more than a few. just the basic stuff i.e. changing tire size, speed limiter, shift points and firmness torq strategies, timing, power enrichment delay, how to shut off downstream 02's, torque management stuff...and i kinda learned on my own how to read the data logging screen a little bit.but right now im running one that i like thats from joel paynton, from paynton performance in drayton valley alberta. hes like the western canadian grandmaster tuner, well respected around here. i kinda changed up a few things, i up'd shift pressure a little bit in 1st-2nd shift and made it rev a little higher than he had..played with speedo a bit too it was off since he couldnt set it right beside me. me and a buddy bought a shitty little Acer laptop for like 300 bucks and all we use it for is EFI Live, i have probly 5 or 6 saved along with my factory tow and factory tunes. my buddy probly has like 15 or so for duramax, his choice of tunes are like tow tune, 90hp, little bit smokey right up to blow your F****N tranny tunes down in the states ive heard you can go to classes and shit. i would love to go and learn a little more, because by no means...let me get this straight by no means am i a professional ...just kinda go sick on stupid handhelds that make my truck bang into gear for 400 bucks...i figured why not? it seems pricy but it the long run it will be cheaper...ill always be a GM man and ill always be screwing with my shit. its $100 for a Vin license for each vehicle...its like eating a burger...do you want the one from mcdiks that you know nothing about what inside or what its gonna do to you or do you want the burger you made at home with your grandma's special recipe and you know every ingredient? half of it is peace of mind for me anways dude

personally I tune with HP Tuners.

tuning is not for the fain at heart. if you aren't willing to study and do a lot of reading first then it is not for you.

I've tuned setups from bone stock trucks to a wild cam 6.0 swap truck....

The GMT 800 trucks were much easier to deal with.

I haven't even messed much with my 2009 because it's such a PITA in comparison (plus I don't quite have the time I used to).

Tuning the 6 speed transmission can be a nightmare.

I have however tinkered with it some and achieved 23 mpg on a tank of fuel. Performancewise I haven't had the time to devote with an open strip of pavement.
