08 Front Brakes, W/ Spreading Fingers Pad Clips Or Without?

Hello All,

 

I was looking to purchase new front brake pads for my 08 Silverado (1500 4WD) and have found there are two different pads avaailable in the catalog. 1 design is listed "With Spreading Fingers Pad Clips" and the other "Without Spreading Fingers Pad Clips". How the heck am I supposed to know which ones I have without taking everything apart ? If a VIN would help, it is: 2GCEK19C0811*****

Ok, so buy both sets if you are not sure and then return the ones that you don't need. The difference that I see in them is a set for a truck with hydraboost (power steering fluid assisted) brakes or one with vacuum brakes. You probably have the vacuum brakes as these are the most common.

I have Vaccum. Does anyone know? I am planning to mail order these, buying both and returning one is an option, but not one that I prefer.

Have you thought about checking at your local auto parts store and see what they show fits your VIN? Pretty frickin' easy. Once you know you can order.

wouldn't the spreading finger pads be for a single-piston caliper? i know that mine is dual piston and without the clips.

I have pad spreading wire clips on my Mazda 626. They are very difficult to remove and install.

I looked into this as well but I was never able to get an answer. I guess as these earlier model trucks need brake jobs we'll figure it out. I plan to change my brakes this fall/winter.

This could be a case of you DO NOT NEED to order parts online..... There are only one set of pads listed in my cataloging. If you walked in my store and asked me for brakes it would be UP8472-X (but could be TS8472-X, SS8472-X AD8472), laid down in front of you at the counter. 2008 I list only one type of front brake pads on GMT900 1/2 trucks.

 

I hope you found the right pads...... Without ordering the wrong ones.

whenever i buy pads, they ask me whether or not i have drum brakes in the rear. my best guess is that drum brake trucks have dual piston calipers without the spreading finger pads in the front, and the rear disc trucks have a single piston caliper with the spreading finger pads. keep in mind this is not a fact, it is just the best explanation i can come up with.
