noise

when im in my 2000 5.3 auto silverado there is a noise that comes from the rearend. it almost sounds like a thowout bearing in a clutch like in my old toyota, similar noise. my dealer said because they use synthetic fluid it is thinner than the real stuff so it doesnt muffle the gears as well. if it was a bearing i would think it would get louder then just fail. it has been there for as long as i can remeber. u-joints r good

How many miles do you have on it?

Have you changed the fluid?

i have 60k on it, i never changed it but i check the fluid it seemed low so i added some of the synthetic fluid to it. i thought that would take care of the noise as well but didnt

This might be off the subject some but here goes. I just had my 02 to the dealer for a clunk sound from the rear end, among the radio "loc" problem and the cold start Knock.

 

They replace the slip yoke with the new nickle slip yoke. The clunk is gone for now, we will see in a few miles of use.

 

They ordered me a new radio, they bench tested mine and didn't find anything wrong with it but ordered me a new one anyway. :thumb:

 

Cold start knock. Well they threw the TSB in front of me and told me it was normal and that Chevrolet was not doing anything at this time about it. They said the Chevrolet knows about it and has done extensive testing with no problems with their knocking engines. They also reasured me that if something did happen and it was related to the knock that it was in their system and would be taken care of if need be.

 

So at least the radio and clunk are taken care of. Just have to keep fingers crossed on the annoying "knock".
