5.3 Swap For 6.2

Hi all, I have a 2001 Tahoe with 5.3 and 160K. Tranny is showing age and motor leaks and uses oil. I want to buy new 6.2 from Chevy and rebuild 4L60. I do all my own work, have lift/shop etc. Recently put 5.3/4L60 into my 70' chev shortbed.

Looking for help on how hard the swap would be to upgrade from 5.3 to 6.2. Can I just swap out throttle body and plug in the rest of the motor? Will the stock computure adjust fuel/air to compensate for the larger motor? Will a programmer give me what I need??

Any help would be appreciated? Can't seem to find anyone at the dealers who can give me a straight answer.

I would think you would be better off with a Junk Yard or an Insurance Total vehicle. Reason being is that you will need the new ECM and more than likely a new 6spd. auto to match up. Could probably match up a 4L60E but not sure. Your best bet would be to check out the performancetrucks.net forum and poke around to see who has done the swap and what it needed...$$$ time etc.

Your main issue would be the 4 speed trans vs 6 speed as the 6.2s are with 6 speed. You would need new controllers etc.

it would be a LOT simpler to just swap in a 2002-2006 6.0L, it would be a direct bolt in and drive off swap.

The 03-up are drive by wire.. so it's not a direct swap but dang close :jester:

I have a 2002 Tahoe with a [throttle cable]came with a 5.3,,can I use a 2006 6.0 eng/complete with acc's-wiring[from intake to oil pan],and add the ''drive by wire '' setup ,[throttle pedal,TAC,wiring] ive read everything I can find,[yes I need a 5.3 flexplate],im seeing that if I use a tac/throttle combo,i need to add some wires to the ECM

where should I keep looking?

60e works just fine with a 6.2... The TCM and ecm could not care less about what they are controlling combination wise and as long as its tuned it's fine. Gen 4s biggest hurtle is the 58 tooth crank reluctor wheel.. As a gen 3 uses 24 teeth. You can get a converter box from lingenfelter and then just extend your knock sensor harness as well as the Cam sensor harness. More work than most can handle though haha.

Just use the 5.3s intake with the cable operated throttle. An 02 5.3 has the same injectors a 6 liter (LQ4 or LQ9) would so beyond tuning it's plug and play.

ok,why?

I was a GM tech, other forums say it can be done,

what do you know, that im not seeing?,

im told if I use the electronic throttle, the wiring from the pedal to the TAC,the TAC module[mounted where the cruise module is] and add the wires to the ECM plug it will work,[ECM must be ''blue and red conectors'']

educate me,I want to know

2002 trucks also had drive-by-wire and or drive-by-cable

also if I use a cable throttle,i would have to go back to a 72mm throttle body,,id like to use the 90mm throttle body on the 06' eng

90 mm throttle body needs a gen 4 engine intake manifold, all the GM wiring and TAC, plus an X-Link from Torque Rush
