Heads Up - Warning To Check Bolts After Install

This sounds like my buddy "Its tight enough when the impact stops and a breaker bar double checks"..... Of course while pulling a 28' boat out of the water and I asked, did he put those out drives up? His timeless answer "Its not my boat! I was asked to pull it not check the out drives, besides if he left them down they will mod themselfs" :mad::crazy:

Thanks for the blind assumption of my brain capacity.

 

The outdrive on my boat doesn't have any marks in it from the boat launch, thanks. :)

 

 

 

 

All is good, I have broke plenty of things getting a little trigger happy with the impact. HAHA

U-bolts - 1500

100 N·m

74 lb ft

 

 

Should be 120 ft/lbs according to the ReadyLift 3" block kit. All the ones I have installed I torqued them to 120 without any problems. The ft/lb you posted is for OEM blocks and bolts.

1st time poster post: glad to have come across this thread. I had planned on pulling my stock blocks tomorrow and just moving them to the top of the leaf to give me a little bit of rear-end drop (2000 silverado 4x4). my intention is improved aerodynamics. however upon reading this discussion I think I will wait until I buy some replacement U-bolts. you all have my gratitude of extraordinary magnitude!

Yeah I agree too, just remove the blocks. From what you are saying you want to put the axle over top the leaf spring and then the block that will drop you about 5" also you will have to remove the bolt in the spring center (it holds the leaves together) and flip the bolt to come down from the top because the bolt has a round head that sets inside the block to keep it from moving. Its more to it then what you think. Bump stops, driveshaft lenght, etc.

I really doubt you'll see a significant gain in efficiency from this.

it all adds up - grille block, valance block, and pumped tires so far. next leveled out with reduced wheel well clearance, bed cover, eventually perhaps a bellypan. every little bit helps. I'm already averaging 19mpg for a 20% improvement over stock and I haven't touched the engine or exhaust yet.

Being leveled out your mileage may drop as this will let more air up under the truck and increase drag. Truck are designed the way they sit from the factory for aerodynamics to reduce drag. Yes the rear is up for loads but that is in the design for aerodynamics.

it's a consideration. however, leveling by lowering the rear will not allow any more air under the truck as the bow profile will not be significantly altered. if any greater drag is introduced it will be by inceased turbulence along the undercarriage. whether or not this becomes an issue, I intend to add a bellypan as well as airblocks between the frame rails and body. indeed I will do repeated before-and-after mileage testing to determine actual gains or losses as I have thus far.
