Exactly.

 

Could you explain again how/why body lifts ride like crap? But this time, explain it by using components that are facilitated in a body lift.

 

How does a body lift effect the shocks?

 

 

Well like i told you before (mind you, i am no truck guru) Its common sense. buddy of mine threw some 20$ shackles on his truck which raised the body causing the shocks/struts/springs w/e the hell you would like to call them causing the truck to "ride like absolute shit" what part of that sir do you not get?

You do not know what a "body lift" is :)

 

Sir, shackles are part of a suspension lift, NOT a body lift. A body lift lifts the body off the frame (common sense?) and does not effect ANY suspension component, nor the ride in the slightest bit.

Suspension lifts are not cheap. I did a 4" and don't regret it, simply because the truck still fits in the garage, and I can get in the cab easy myself.

 

I am not sure why a body lift rides like crap? Nothing changes with the suspension, so it will ride the same.

 

Depending on what suspension lift and tires you roll will depend on the ride quality.

 

It basically comes down to how high to you want to go? How much $$$$ do you want to part with?

Yeah you probaly should research a topic before spouting out incorrect information on that topic.

 

Since the shocks arent attached to the body, Im not sure why you would need shock extensions. A body lift simply raises the body off of the frame with spacers. It in no way affects any suspension parts.

 

Installing a BL does not change any of the suspension components. Ive never seen a body lift that included shackles or wheel spacers. The only possible way a BL can change a ride quality is by increasing the center of gravity and resulting in a little more body roll when cornering.

 

Fact is, they are easy to install, chaper to buy, and dont affect ride quality unless you screw them up. As far as wearing out parts faster, there are no moving part involved (or there werent any on the ones Ive installed) so there should not be anything to wear out faster. In most cases, the hardware is an upgrade over factory.

:) +1 to what they say ^ A body lift simply raises the body off of the frame with spacers, "Period" No Shocks, No shackles No suspensions mods what so ever with a body lift, just more frame showing depending on the height and truck it's installed on! :mad:

i know if i had to do it all over again on my 2011 sierra 1500, i would have gone with a 2.5" leveling kit, with 2.5" rear blocks, and 1.5 BL. thats the easiest/cheapest way to get 4" IMO.

 

Although im 110% happy with my RCX 4.75" lift. just wish winter wasnt in a couple months so i could get some wheels and tires... damn weather

you arent going to get many positive replies on that one. its expensive for the amount of lift. If you have the money for a big name lift, I would definately go that route. but if you are only going 4" why not do 2.5" level, and 1.5 BL?

I would actually refer to it as an UN-glorified leveling kit.

 

Jim, remember that last guy that didn't heed our warnings? He bought that kit then took it off the truck in what.... 3 weeks???

Last time I went with the 6in lift kit with 35" tires then added a 1.5 BL for the added clearance. The body lift in my opinion is not worth the time to me. I think next time I'm going to do a 4" lift kit and 33" tires and call it good. To me the wheel wells are just too small on the GMs and anything bigger than 35's you have to push a 10" lift kit. I wouldn't waste time or money trying to squeeze every little bit out of your suspension with these "glorified leveling kits" because your going to sacrifice your ride quality and add stress to suspension components. So just invest the money into a suspension lift if you want the job done right. Just my 2 pennies.

ya thats what i thought im goin g to got with 4" suspension lift and if i want to go bigger i'll wait for the next truck i get. rancho or bdl possibly thanks for the input it helped greatly hope to post some new pics of it if i get in done soon

IMO, a 4" suspension isn't worth the time and money. I would rather save some coins and do a 3" body + 2" leveling kit.

      How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.

      Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?

      What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way too big headlights (similar to a previous non-Wrangler SUV) should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crossing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
